female plants, approaching the end of their life will occasionally throw off a few male flowers in a last ditch effort to reproduce. There is an up side and a down side to this. First of all, seeds will be unable to develop if harvest is only a week away, but if your friend allows bud to stay on long enough to grow seeds, seeds from a genetically female plant are most often female seeds. I know you have found the odd seed in otherwise seedless pot, and this is why. Either way I wouldn't be terribly concerned.
