hello fellow dope smokers,
Don't be intimidated by how much I wrote because you know you need the whole story and info to troubleshoot this stuff, plus..you know you love reading this shit!!!
So i'm popping my growing cherry with my first plant that i started growing on Aug. 9th.
I placed the little lady in a small pot, it held a little more than a quart of soil, and was an idiot and went to home depot and bought miracle grow soil with a mix of humus fertilizer as my medium. i have 2 -300 watt Compact Florescent bulbs,a fan, a ph/moisture reader, and a ppm meter...
Well after it started developing its second set of true leaves i started pumping in the nutrients. I use Alaska fish fertilizer 5-1-1 to be exact. once the plant reached about a foot tall it started to develop yellow bottom leaves with spots and the tips were turning down (which i believe was a mag. deficiency--correct me if i'm wrong!)... so i bought the ph/moisture reader and found out that it had a ph of 4.5 in the worst spots and the highest it was 5.5 and so i stopped immediately adding nutrients and started flushing the shit out of it! i figure i got a little nutrient happy with it which caused it to lock and the mag. deficiency.
So for the next two weeks i flushed it using 3 times the container size for about 2 weeks only after it dried out so to not over water it (so i did it 2 times) well the ph got better...still getting a reading of 4.5 below the plant but on the outside it was a solid 6.5 and so since it was a big fucker i placed it in a 2 gallon pot and bought the good stuff (black gold- garden compost blend and sunshine- natural and organic planting mix) i tried to remove as much of that miracle grow crap from the roots but it was really in there so i placed it in the other medium and flushed it again twice...now i get a proper reading of 7 or 6.5 lower in the pot.
Just last week i got my ppm reader finally and found that it was low (below 500) and checking now after flushing twice it is 240. The water i was adding was tap water from my sink and that read only 30 so i dont think it was the water that caused it...
I think its safe to start adding nutrients again but am not sure, i bought Shultz Plant Food Plus 10-15-10 that says you add just 7 drops per quart of water, every time you water, and am not sure if i should do that or not or stick with the fish fertilizer, I also just purchased Alaska Mor Bloom 0-10-10 which says its Formulated to accompany Alaska Fish Fertilizer, despite NOT being organic, this phosphorous and potassium rich liquid nutrient can also be used alone to promote fruiting and flowering. Derived from phosphoric acid and muriate of potash... so i don't know if i should continue with the fish poo but at a lower dosage and mix it with the Mor Bloom or try the schultz... i'm going to post how the plant is looking so you have a better idea as to what it looks like!
By the way, is there any way to bring in life back to those lower leafs or should i just cut them?
Thanks for all your input!
