Heat Stress??? New Grower

Hey Guys, glad to be part of the community. This is day 8 of my first grow and I noticed my leaves "tacoing," just wanted a proper diagnosis of heat stress.



This a hydroponic grow, 98% perlite, 2% potting soil to sprout the seed (excess soil removed)

Indoors, two 23 watt cfls

Originally 2 inches away (Which was ok at first) --- Now about 4.5ish inches away from the top

The strain I am using is Auto Widow

I was originally watering every 2 days, but now a quick soak (half a poland spring bottle) in the morning, and then half a gallon with nutes when I come home from work. (4:30ish-5) (EveryDay last couple of days)

Using general hydroponics (half strength)

Temps currently in my room 84 degrees -- cooling after a 91 degree day - about 69% humidity

1 gallon pot

On my window sill to receive a cross breeze (if any) in my apartment



Other info -- Been over 90 degrees in the tristate area, expected to be like this for another week

I tilted the plant a little in one of the pics so you can see it from an angle

I wanted to know the next course of action...obviously keep the plant cool (no A/C)

Fan would bring attention to someone I'd rather not want to know I'm growing...This a ghetto apartment grow



Main Concern...I have heat stress...worried about future hermie

A small desk fan wouldn't make noise at all if any if u find the right one. Shouldn't be a problem to get a fan if you needed. I understand your problem with heat I'm in Tristate area too. I'm lucky enough to be in a basement that stays in the high 60s even with the outside being 90. I run a few oscillating fans that aren't really loud at all. If a fan currently is a concern for causing attention may I ask what you plan on doing come time when it smells? Try moving back from the window a little get some kind of air flow going.

No a/c in apartment do you have central air? Shit if not I'd is get a fan and be like I'm trying to cool the fuck off. Ain't no suspicion about that crap. Especially if it's in ur room. Get a 20.00 fan

Thanks for the reply...Well the concern is really only till about Sunday, than the person leaves for a while. (Family Member) So I wouldn't have a problem actually having a fan, it's really the course of action for the next couple of days, which is the duration of this heat wave. the smell issue would be taken care of by then cuz I'll have the area to myself .

Family that blows. But yea look into something cheap and small now even if it's a window fan that pulls hot air out. If not start saving for an a/c unit it'll pay itself over time especially with the heat we get sometimes in the Tristate. During the winter I use my fan a/c and just exchange air out through it, then use it as a/c in summer when needed

Cool, will look into both first thing in the morning. Thanks for the advice...do you currently have any grow journals on those plants? Always looking to learn from others

No I do not. Currently moved to new area and all that. I just have a random bag seed in my tent just to get my temps humidity and shit correct. I didn't want to waste good seeds in a new area that wasn't controlled. I got some pics in another thread. Just click my name and on the pop up click my name again and go to recent post or threads tab. If this is ur first grow good luck. Just know things will go wrong along the way a few times around to u get the hang of everything. There's lots of satisfaction when u cut down ur own plant for drying and curing.

+1 get some ventilation in there.

Make sure its venting well also, too keep fresh clean air in circulation.

Gotcha, will do, getting ready to browse the stores before heading to work

What are you using for ventilation?

Check ebay also, some cheap but good options on there. However if I was you i'd be getting some sort of ventilation in there quick smart!

Is it possible that it could be a leaf trait? I woke up this morning, checked the therm, read 81...that shouldn't be too bad right? Definitely a breeze as I see the leaves shaking, they're still curled but it definitely does not seemed to have hindered growth as there is new growth.





Still getting the fan though

I have two open windows, (pretty strong cross breeze) leaves shake and stem strength has definitely increased, i also have a bigger rotating fan, but not directly on the plant, might be a little to strong for her stem

Try and remove the string if you can, make it support itself. So the plant strengthens up without support!!Defintley get a desk fan $10 max..

guess I'm too new of a member to like anything...
Update: Plant is doing a lot better, got a little phosphorous deficiency (top left leaf, slight stem reddening), so I increased the nute intake to regular strength, will run that a couple of days to see if deficiency persist.
