Ken’s whole breeding program is a shit show. Doesn’t know what males are pollinating females, using other people’s cuts to win cups... I wouldn’t buy anything from him with real confidence.

If you believe the lineage of GDP, it’s supposedly Urkle x Big Bud, and Big Bud suuuuuucks.

But mostly, Urkle is just better than GDP. I haven’t smoked Mendo Purps personally, but I’ve heard good things and seen good crosses from it.
When KEN got what he called gdb he did not know shit on how it was bread for ken stold that line and started selling it as GDP.And them words came out of KENS OWN MOUTH.

I grew out some of Ken's GDP in 2017 - they were feminized seeds I picked up from Attitude. I did two runs of it, the second run being clones of the first run. One pheno turned very purple (almost black) and the other stayed green throughout. I have pics in my journal if you want to browse what the end product looked like.

All in all I have no complains with the plants I grew. Solid aroma, great taste, great yield... but it's not something I'm itching to grow out again.

As others have said, Ken is kind of a douchebag and his breeding practices are questionable. Eric, who now runs DVG (Dungeon's Vault Genetics), shed some light to the situation a couple years ago here on RIU, you'd have to search for the thread. It's a good read if you can find it. I didn't learn about all of this until after I ordered the seeds, otherwise I would've purchased seeds elsewhere.

I've seen a few interviews with Ken where he's asked about the lineage of GDP, and he isn't very forthcoming about the details. If I recall correctly, he said the cut came from some indians or something to that extent. I don't believe the GDP gear he's selling nowadays is the same GDP of 5 years ago. Once again, if I recall correctly, the original GDP was lost several years back and the GDP being sold today is of totally different lineage.

If you are looking for buds that will turn purple then there's a ton of great genetics out there for you. You may want to look at DVG as an option, I know the OGKB that Eric uses brings out fire in a lot of his crosses. Oni is another breeder that you may want to look into, Tropicanna Cookies for example is a very purple leaning strain.

KEN never did have a cut of gdp he got seeds out of the pot that was GAVE to him to smoke and that's all he knew about and it takes cold to get the old to turn purple so its not even close to a purple strain.

Yeah, I have some seeds of the old time GDP Eric gave me for doing a GDP grow and putting it on the internet, back when he was with Ken. I would contact Eric if you can, not sure what Ken is doing now. His Indian story always seemed a bit fake but I do not know and he is quite limited in mobility now, so his breeding may have suffered without Eric around.

GDP is among my favorite strains, the one I got from Ken and Eric back a few years. I have heard a clone that is different than Ken's is better. I was very satisfied with Ken's old line, psychedelic for me too, which seems to be lost on everyone else. They just call it indica but for me it was a hybrid with a very soothing and trippy feel to it.

I have not grown or smoked GDP for a few years now being involved with sativas almost exclusively. Will dig those beans out one day though. I get tired easy now and sativas do not drag me down so much so I have almost done away with hybrids or indica. GDP was not very tiring but a little bit on the comedown.

original GDP was killer, hence why were still talking about it 10plus years later. its offspring are also killer. candyland, purple punch, dungeons vault line, etc all have original gdp. the list goes on and on. Ken lost a gold mine.

I am friends with eric and I started the dungeons vault thread on here. he will be releasing a grandpa's breath x purple gellato soon all signs point to killer results.

I am looking for that also. I haven't found any relationship between what I order and what I receive anytime I have used a European vendor so I just don't take the chance anymore.

I would be happy to find something close in the USA.
The only time i ever received what i bought from outside of the U.S. was from seedbotique.
U.S. is bad too a lot of basement breeders just crossing abc X abc and hoping for something special without ever growing out the cross themselves.

I was curious about Oni and that found this thread.

I wanted to add that the darkest purples I have found involved BigWorms Triple Purple Dojo
that Doc worked into his Triple Purple Rhino.

...but Oni seems to be the only outfit working with Sour Dubb out there...I would like to
try a pack, but they are pretty expensive. We will see.

Original GDP...San Francisco 98'
The first strain I remember having a real NAME. And lives up to the (back then) hype. I'm fact everything I've tried from GDP has been FIRE.
