future grow room

this will be my 2 future grow rooms...they will be approx 3ft6in x 6ft x 7ft tall...i have a hydrofarm cfl reflector hood, good for up to 200w...i have a hydrofarm 200w full daylight spectrum bulb...all bought at hydro shop(4 hour round trip)...a 25ft roll of permaflect for walls and ceiling...i found 2-40in surge protectors at lowes for $27 each(10 recpticles each)...i have several sockets and "y" adaptors to plug in them...also round boxes with bolt on light bases and i have a couple of 4ft t-8 flos hanging in the shed with 5000k bulbs i could rob...also a 200cfm bathroom exhaust fan and a few digital timers...you may have noticed the grow rocks and net pots for my 5 gal buckets in the pics...i also have 2 4 way air pumps and 8 blue air stones...1 qt of botnicare pro grow and 1 qt of botnicare pro bloom.
i was going to try for 1 room for now using bubble buckets untill i found subcools threads on here...i think i may go with his supersoil mix...i am going to experiment with bag seed for the first grow to learn about light placement and temp and humidity...where i live it gets over 100 deg f every summer and is very humid...i have a small clip on fan i will mount to circulate air and i will also try co2 at some stage.
i am going to paint everything flat white and cover as much as a 25ft roll of permaflect will cover...the 200w i am going to hang on strings in the middle...the 2-40inch surge protectors i will hang on each side of that with a homemade reflector so i can raise and lower them on the side of the plants...i will mix and match the 23w cfl bulbs in these strips as needed between the daylight bulbs and the soft white bulbs...the surge protectors will give me the flexability to use up to 20 bulbs per side for a total of 40 using y adaptors.

question 1-will i be able to use the 200w daylight bulb during flower?i would suppliment it with soft white in the surge protectors.

question 2-would it be better to use all daylight bulbs in the surge protectors during veg or should i start swapping in some soft white at later stages of veg?

question 3-am i wasting my time and yours with this thread?

any info, thoughts or criticism welcome as long as you dont tell me what an idiot i am for not using hid lights:weed:

i will be making reflectors for the surge protectors...i will put socket adaptors in all recepticles...measure the diameter of the sockets and the spacing to centers...i will use 1/4in paneling for the reflector base maybe...or cardboard...i will then cut 5in wide cardboard strips for the sides and ends...probably cut bottom of strips 3in longer than the top of strips so that when put together they will angle out at bottom...if i have any permaflect left i will line them with this...if not i will spray paint them with flat white:idea:

i have got to get off here and start doing some more wiring on 2nd room before i can put up the paneling inside my 2 rooms...i find i cant get off here very easy...so much great info to explore...i will be on and off regularly checking responses...any thoughts are welcome...this will be my first indoor grow and my first of any kind in 15 years(all others were outdoors with no kind of guidance)...later:weed:

hey man looks like a nice set up your gonna have there.

Question 1: When you say daylight bulb, what spectrum is that? You want red/yellow for flowering.

Question 2: You want mainly blue spec for vegging, the more the merrier

Question 3: No your not lol

and dude, your not an idiot for using cfl's, sometimes HPS arnt a viable option, cfl's run cooler and dont use as much power. Some people on here go on about ''popcorn'' buds (light and airy) if you use cfl's but ive seen alot of nice grows with cfl's, plus if you use an additive that fattens out buds then your laughing :D

the 200w is 6400k...the smaller ones are 27w daylight-5500k,1300 lumens...23w soft white-2700k,1600 lumens...i realize most people use 5500k to 6500k for veg then swap to 2700k for flower...i just thought the sun doesnt swap to the red spectrum overnight so would i benifit swapping a couple at a time every day during last week of veg and first week of flower for a more natural transition like the sun would do?isnt that what we are trying to do is re-create a more natural sunlight pattern for our indoor plants?:?::idea:

welcome. i grow in the southwest so we share the challenges of trying to grow inside when its always warm outside.

before you buy 40 cfls, let one hps bigot have his say on your thread. not saying you're studpid, just sharing the facts. no matter what you do, best of luck on your grow.

anyway - hps produces more usable light energy per watt than cfl
- hps produces more light per amount of heat generated
- hps costs more per amount of light generated.

most cfl proponents get the first two things wrong but are absolutely right about the third. the bottom line is that if you're on a budget cfls are great but if you;ve got the bucks for forty cfl's why not spend the money for hps?

also, since this is your first grow and you are obviously a patient person i would advise starting one seed in soil for a month to test your room set up before doing multiple plants in hydro.

hi desert rat...glad to have you respond again...i was going to go with a 400w mh in veg room and a 600whps in flo room...3 months ago i got tired of being crapped on and quit my job...i had been there for 12 years with constant crap for last 6...didnt know how hard it would be to get re-employed elsewhere...money for hid lights are gone...i wont be using 40 lights but i will be capable of it...already have 200w cfl and hood in pic...also the 2 40 inch surge protectors with enough sockets and adaptors for about 12 bulbs...got a few of the bulbs too...i was going to go with bubble buckets untill i found subcools thread on supersoil...i will use that instead...or as close as i can get to it...got a job interview monday in memphis for a riverboat...depends on job as to when i actually crack the beans...i understand beans can be kept for years when done properly so i may have to wait...most places that pay enough to meet the bills like to random test and the last place i worked they would wake you up and escort you to the plastic cup...SUPRISE...in the meantime i am going to get the rooms as ready as i can...i have all the carpenter tools to build the rooms and most of the materials also so i will just be time involved at this point...i want to be ready to crack the beans when the time comes...thanks for the reply again...even an engineer gone mad is welcome at my threadbongsmilie

:leaf::leaf: Looking good. I can't wait to see how you set this up. I like the 200W bulb but i would keep it constantly vegging plants and then hook up your flower room with some Warm White (2700K) or Soft White (3000K) bulbs. That 200 W Daylight bulb is perfect to veg some plants though. :leaf::leaf:

thanks dr chronic
i have been researching this forever it seems...i dont know when i will put it in operation but i will post here when i do...i have some nice beans from across the big pond but i am not going to try them first...i will try bag seed to learn about my light placement and temp and humidity and so on...i am working on the walls today getting them ready to cover with 1/4in luan...having to move tablesaw back and forth due to rain showers...i am waiting for it to quit now...any comments on the reflectors i plan to build?:weed:

When I started my first grows I read here that soil is more forgiving than hydro so I went soil. I am still growing in soil. That doesn't mean that I will never go hydro, just not yet. Doing your homework is grand. Measure twice, cut once. I read here for months before getting my first clone. All the reading and constant new input has its own rewards. It doesn't have to be complicated. I am very proud with what I have accomplished in just a short time. Welcome to the most addictive hobby I know of. Good luck with your first grow. I started with a used light and have never looked back.

glad to hear you are doing good with it...i would like to try bubble buckets and organic soil...mh/hps and cfl...i am not set on one way of doing things
