First Grow Ever

Hey guys, east coaster here.

I have a crawlspace in my house that is about 7x8' with a vent to my backyard and places to install light fixtures.. I am thinking of doing 5-6 plants for personal consumption.. The space is asbestos-free and very clean. triple insulated and *NO LIGHT* at all can get in when the space-door is closed up.

Would this be pretty ideal for a small grow with the right lights/timers/fresh airflow?

If so, what can I do to make it as good as possible for my plants to grow nicely once they are planted?

Thanks in advance.

Does it have electrical outlets or just light fixtures? I would think a 7x8 space would be plenty of room though.
I'd get something like a 400-600w hps, an oscilating fan and about a 400cfm fan for exhaust. Planning on
growing in soil?

Yeah I'm planning on growing in soil. It has 1 outlet in the room that has been disconnected, but I am running an 8-way extension splitter or whatever they're called into the room from an external power outlet in my bedroom.
Also, how much stink are we talking once they begin to bud? im not growing anything spectacular, but i do need to keep the odor down a bit

I knew a guy in the Chicago area that grew in the crawlspace without his wife even knowing about it. He had a dirt floor and dug it down deeper to give him more head room.

cool, my girlfriend can't know.. but she doesn't even know we HAVE a crawlspace.. so as long as the smell doesn't get into our room from the space we're good. I have to use pots however since this space is on the 2nd floor of our house and obviously there isn't a dirt floor up here haha

If anyone has any good suggestions for a high-quality carbon filter/fan combo for under $200 let me know, I am trying to eradicate a majority of the smell that is going to be produced.
