Extremely slow growth and unhealthy. Advice?

Hi all,

So first of all I know that the reason for my problems to begin with this time is because of planting the seeds in larger pots from the beginning. I heard somewhere that the plants were bigger and better when started in large containers and thought i could also cut out a little time due to transplant stress and whatnot. I actually did this before some years ago and didn't have any problems but now I am having a bunch.

So they started off fine and sprouted nice and green and healthy. Then basically I went away for a week and left a drip feed system to water the plants. But what it ended up doing was just coating the base of the environment in water, waterlogging the containers and I also think the food might of been too strong or something too because when i came back I had nutrient burn or what it seemed to be and also algae which is never good! So i immediately got rid of all the water and algae and have left the containers to dry out somewhat.

Now they are not completely dry still, at the base i still feel water and they are heavy which is to be expected for a container of this size I guess. The problem is my plants are suffering. I am now in week 5 and the plants look like they are on week 2! I thought the best thing to do was to try and completely dry out the medium and then feed the plants but I havent been able to. I let the medium dry out for about 5 days or so but then the plants seemed to be suffering more. I felt like from my point of view that they were killing their old leaves which were previously green and healthy in order to sprout new ones, they were eating themselves? So I automatically assumed they need a good feed of nitrogen so i have fed a tiny bit but just around the centre of the plants to see if they perk back up.

So now I am basically confused. Do i leave the pots to dry out further or do i now water little but often each day? Some plants are seriously struggling, I have never seen growth this slow. I topped 1 plant at the 2nd node which i know was too soon but its been like 2 weeks and its only created like 2 more sets of leaves in that time. progression is extremely slow! I am hoping once the roots get more established they can drink more water and then as vegetative stage progresses they should be fine but what is my best course of action right now to get them back on track?

one good thing at the very least is that the newest growth seems to be totally healthy but its just too damn slow.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you :)

Basic info
Medium
Nutes
pH
Light distance

Etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc
Coco coir + Perlite. 50/50 mix give or take...
Remo nutrients. Always served me well previously so shouldn't be a problem there.
PH is like 6.8 or something. maybe a little over but nothing too troublesome at this stage. they sprouted healthy for the first couple weeks until i left them on their own with the drip system and I have started previous grows before under the same conditions with light, medium, nutes, PH etc with no problems.
Distance from the light is where it should be. in my setup the light is not adjustable it just constantly sits about 2-2.5 feet away from the top of the base pot.
Temp and humidity is fine. At first i left the fan off to create humidity for the young seedlings but i always do this. now i have the fans running 24/7 and felt like that might help dry the medium out faster too. Temp stays stable around 20C ish more or less.

Here are some results from a previous grow using the same growing space, medium, lights, nutes, PH, etc

So as you can see I am having COMPLETELY different and unexpected results this time around... lol

6.8 ph or something seems a bit high especially if it's sitting in your reservoir for a couple of days and I think you topped them way too early if I am not seeing wrong...

Coco needs water/nutes daily at 5.6-6 pH
Are u doing that?
I WAS. because i personally was under the impression that coco has to remain moist unlike soil... but I was watching urbanremo on youtube which I also use his nutrients and he grows in 100% coco coir and he said "my number 1 rule for growing cannabis is if it aint dry don't apply..." so that's why i thought that I have seriously water logged my plants and left the medium to dry out for several days. they just got a feed today but prior to that were starved for 5 days to let the medium dry out somewhat. I am not sure what the right course of action is that is why I am asking for help lol

I did top early but I done that intentionally because the height of my grow space is pretty limited. They have bounced back and recovered before but yes the problems did start happening after they were sitting in water from the reservoir. too strong for them and also got some algae in the water and on the medium itself. I saw green spots around the perlite. I obviously cleaned that up but the damage has been done. the PH is a little high but I have found it to be no problem for me personally in the vegetative stage and have had good results in the past and fast growth. I usually adjust the PH further down the line when its coming up for flower and then give a 6.0 PH dose from there on in.

Considering many shut their grows down during summer
I am wondering if you have the same climate as your last grow ...humidity , temperature...?
Not sure it's hard to say.... Maybe the others were started a little later in the year compared to this one. But really temps have been stable. We have had the odd boiling hot day but i do mean the odd day here and there. The UK is not consistent at all with its weather lol. So really for the most part temps have stayed in the 21-27C range. maybe dropping to 18C at most on rare occasions from what I see.

Well

Because one guy said to not water, yer plants now are stunted, dry,And bad

99 other people will tell you to water daily with 1/4 strength nutes

Also Tetris your plants to keep them 20-24" from yer lights. Or, make the lights adjustable

You seem to have a lot of reasons for why you are doing things

But most are not good practices at all

Focus on corrections in your Watering, nutes, pH, and they should survive
Cool. Well i will water daily once again and go from there. I will keep you posted.

Although making the light adjustable is not really possible in my current space. it can actually become problematic during flower period. I MUST use a scrog net to ensure they don't go too out of control and they usually remain about 1 ft away or less during flower.

It's a shame because there is actually plenty of space above the light but the thing is so damn heavy its like 20 kg or something. not really sure what workaround I could do, this is just how the kit came. I have to scrog to keep things in check and even then it can be problematic.

On the other hand it does produce some superb quality when all is said and done lol

Lord...
Water less often, do not feed a speck until they show some improvement. What lights are you using?

There's no reason to water everyday. You're loving them to death! Water when a pot is light when you pick it up, otherwise leave it alone. I know you want them to grow faster so y ou I give then a bunch of stuff, but heres the reality companies want to sell you stuff more than what your plants need or want

Even in coco.... if the coco is making him overfeed and water then switch to soil.
I used coco and I would water every 2 or 3 days with half strength nutes or none at all.
If done correctly of course you can water and feed coco everyday.... but these plants are being loved to death.

A plant with too few nutes might grow a little slower...
A plant with too much will die....

See this is what I mean.... one person tells me to water daily and then another person tells me to cut out water completely until they show improvement! This is why I am confused! xD

The light is an XMAX V2 or something. It was imported from holland with the G-Tools Grow box about 5 years ago or something. They do not sell them now but the light cost me something like 7-800 UK pounds or 1000 dollars lets say. the quality of the product by the end is superb but this time it's not running smoothly as before lol.

Cannabis problems huh? XD still.... Great hobby, I love every moment :)
