Did I screw myself over?

So I was showing one of my friends my marijuana plant. It was growing nicely and each node was sprouting 2 sets of leaves. After a while right at the node where the stem of the leaf meets the main stem/trunk more leaves were sprouting. He said that I should pull those off so I could direct all the growing to the main plant and leaves. I don't know why I listened to him as hes never grown. Did I screw myself over? Were those suppose to grow into bigger leaves and eventually spawn bud??

Well, I'm sure your plant can recover however I'd say that you definitely set it back. If I'm not mistaken, those shoots you were tearing off were probably the leaf sets with 5,7, or 9 leaflets while those other leaves were the bigger fan leaves with just 3 leaflets. The way I look at it is the more fan leaves you have then the more energy the plant is able to absorb from the lights. My plant is now producing some smaller leaf sets with 9 leaflets on the 4th node or so and from what I've read around that those sites will more than likely become the bud sites. (Newbie myself, just relating what I read).

I know there's a time to trim fan leaves when they are blocking the bud sites and are under the canopy where light penetration is really weak.

if you dont want clones or branches, yeah you can pull them off. more branches means spread out energy but more leaves is better. youll see buds where pistils emerge, wait until they're about 8-10 inches tall and theyll show sex.

phew that is a huge relief. My plants are already over 14 inches tall and I've been flowering for a week. So far theyre not showing sex yet but I suspect it's because I have really really weak cfl lights so the whole process is taking a long time.

Trust me bud...this is my first grow, some random bagseed i felt like germinating one day. lolol. You cannabis will grow and grow and grow, but DON"T remove anything your first grow...just let it grow and watch and read about what you want to learn. Eventually you can start "lollypop experimenting" or whatever you feel like. I was really paranoid when i first began too, but they are hard to kill, unless you just don't take any care of her, then she will get sad and die :'(. lmao.

Anyhow, Harvesting my first plant saturday, here is my most recent pic of this crazy lady <3 Cheers, read and have fun!
