cut back a tropicanna

Anyone grown a Tropicanna?

What is the best way to cut them back?

Do i cut back the tallest stalk, to the base of the plant?

Is it ok to cut it midway up the plant just above a leaf?

i couldn't find much advice googling. i was planning to cut it back at the base and throw some leaves over it until spring. Then ill uncover and see if it comes back. Im
