Constructing HoopHouse

the gangster greenhouse, love it

looks like you went 6-7' between hoops .. you may want add 2 more purlins halfway down each hoop ... even if you don't have the extra pipe, you could honestly use anything just to add more support

either tarp or greenhouse plastic will work here.. greenhouse plastic may have some extra benefits like anti-drip or IR protection, but if it's going to cost too much more just go with the clear tarp... I've used both successfully

Cool got my 32x 25 ft clear nursery plastic and like 8 ,3 inch clamps to hold it down for now.

Going to I think leave like a foot on the sides to get some airflow along with the front and back.

Looks rainy this week so should be helpful.

Wish I could get a fan up there, found a Little bit Of PM on one plant, removed those leaves. Haven’t found any budrot, shaking them out every AM still.

Still chugging along, hoping for 2 weeks more

I’ll need to have a rope and pull it over for sure.

Should
I duct tape rope to the end and pull it cut a hole and tie the rope in the hole?

My
girlfriend will be pulling the other side. We will get it done haah

it the plastic came on a roll it's easiest to run a pipe through the roll and feed it off the roll... either way the 1st persons job is to make sure you have plenty of slack to pull the plastic over each hoop as you go along .. with real sturdy steel hoops you could tie a rope and and pull it the length but pvc gets a little wonky .. i find it's easiest to pull it over each hoop

So I never got Perlings because they were all out of PVC actually.

But they hoop house kept its shape and looked good.

We got the plastic over it, moved the hoops around a bit but we readjusted them and it looks okay still.

Left front and back open and sides are down currently.

Need some more spring clamps to clamp them down.

Will post pictures later.

Might attempt to run a long ass extension cord for a fan( house is like 50 yards away) and just toss a fan in their for peace of mind .

One plant was touching the plastic so I bent er over and tied her down,

I’m hoping the big front and backs being open should be enough airflow

Need some fine tuning tomorrow. More clamps and have some spare pvc around i’m going to try and do some perlins. Would it be worthless to do them if it’s not the whole length?Like can i connect two together or do all of them need to be one unit ?
Going to get that left side about as high as i can reach and clamp it so it can get a nice breeze when it’s not raining. Then drop it down for rain.

looking pretty good so far trap ... i would definitely get some purlins on there though ... it looks like that whole thing could go for a ride if a good wind gust gets it.. a heavy rain could also very likely collect water in those droops between the hoops.. you don't need to use pvc if you dont have it though ... find a bunch of fresh straight saplings, strip the limbs and use those... you want to connect it from end to end but it doesn't need to be one long continuous purlin ... you can use a few but just start the next one on the same hoop the other finished on

then pull the plastic tight end to end and weight the plastic down good along the sides

Haha well.

I think you were completely right Stealth.

It was my fault for being to ghetto and not having purlins. Live and learn.

Went up this morning and honestly not sure how but like plastic somehow fell and destroyed like 3 plants. Snapped em right in half. And the Hoops were way out of alignment. All my fault, could have been prevented. So i pulled the plastic off, I figured I need proper perlins before I put any plastic up or it will just shift and fall every time.

It looks like because the plastic was sitting on some plants that a few buds started to get moldy. I pulled them and tossed those buds.

I think i’m going to try and fab up some perlins today.

Irrelevantly next spring I will go at it way better without the plants in the space and what not.

I’ll try to resurrect it this week.

If not i’ll see if they can finish under nature lol

I would probably put the purlins in from underneath and just use a screw ... you can put the purlin over like you have it... but that can also create a pocket for water to pool up if the plastic sags behind it ... you want to go the whole length, from end to end.. you don't want any movement on the hoops so you can pull the plastic tight over the whole structure... if hoops are able to move left or right the plastic will sag and water will pool up

Alright makes sense, will switch the side the purlins are in.

Yes going to cut some little saplings down then will eventually have it from
end to end.
will be a mix of PVC and wood.

Okay will try to make sure they have no movement.

Haha i has acl surgery in june so it’s gnarly doing this all on one leg haha. essentially.

hopefully it’ll be worth it ;)

get some 1x2 x? wood strapping screw into pvc then just staple the poly down.

That’s a good idea.

Honestly there’s no where within an hour one way of getting lumber which blows my mind.

But i went out back and cut down two 20 foot , about 2 inch in diameter trees/saplings. Sturdy as hell.

I have 10 feet of PVC i can use for Purlin also.

I was going to use a combo of those PVC’s and Saplings. See if that works. In theory it would be like a poor mans wood strapping ?

I got a leaf blower, so that should help Irrelevantly, going to try and finish the hoop house tomorrow correctly. But it’ll be fun to leave blow all this moisture off.
