I am sure you could get the cutting to root but it does NOT reset the clock so it will flower the same time the mother plants does, ie take cutting on an 8 week auto at 3 weeks the cutting is 3 weeks old also and will be done in 5 weeks.
so yield will suffer greatly if you're even get roots.
You would severly hinder your efforts by trying to clone an autoflower. Even under 24 hours of light you can't get one to reveg and all you would end up doing is trying to root a Small bud.
Yes and no... I cloned the Iranian short season by dgt. Years ago under 24 hours of light , at that time he said it wasn't an auto but had auto characteristic's... Now he calls it Iranian auto flower and it is no longer cloneable .. it's full auto now.. I guess what I'm saying it depends on the percentage of auto in a particular strian weather it will clone or not.. even then the yield will be compromised to some extent..
