Yeah mine hasnt been cleaned in about that long either due to the fact it has been in a closet for about 14 monthsi haven't had a situation this bad, but my friend ended up using industrial strength goof off because he didn't have any iso. the key ended up being soaking it overnight after several swishes with salt only thinned the residue. the next day it was magically clean. it's oil based so it will take some good rinsing with dish soap or something to that effect, but it was like new, and this was a piece that hadn't been cleaned in almost a year
Use that plus isopropanol or denatured alcohol. You need a penetrating solvent. (A squirt of the blue Easy-Off would work there as well ... its ingredients are penetrating solvents compatible with alkali.) Do not use water (remove what is present ... it weakens the cocktail a whole lot!) for that. Oh and it is very very important that you wear gloves while doing all this! Since alkali plus alcohol is damned slippery, make a point of not fumbling the bong, and work over a sink ... perhaps with something soft but alkali-resistant (no cotton or natural fiber) at the bottom. cn
Sorry fixed the sideways pic - also its a half burned bowl cuz I couldn't finish the damn thing with the clogged perc and my other one is loaded with hash - and the blue thing is my gfs cats toy
Let it soak? and do what on the bottom?Use that plus isopropanol or denatured alcohol. You need a penetrating solvent. Oh my ... such a great straight line ... but will resist.Let it soak? and do what on the bottom?
Oh that kinda thing Idk I thought you meant put it on the counter or something like a coaster.... Sorry XD I will do that when i get 99% on friday - that would be better than 70% right?Oh my ... such a great straight line ... but will resist.
Yes ... let soak for hours The alkali is awesomely effective, but slow, especially with greasy char.
The "on the bottom" bit means when handling slippery glass over the sink, put something cushiony (like a rubber mat or those plastic esh thingies, or some olf grocery bags in a pinch) in your sink so that a slip does not automatically mean disaster. cn
Seventy will do OK with the strong oven cleaner imo. Just pre-rinse with the seventy to clear out as much water from the bong's innards as possible, is my advice. cnOh that kinda thing Idk I thought you meant put it on the counter or something like a coaster.... I didn't know, I just thought the mildly acidic nature of the vinegar combined with a long soak might at least soften things up.Vinegar will do rust but not greasy char. cn
ran out of alcohol it is soaking but getting more alc todayWere you able to clean it?
Can I resist? No! "That's the spirit!" cnI'm trying not to buy something i don't NEED - I NEED 99% alcohol, I do not NEED zep's...
i might give that a try. mine is not nearly as bad as writtin's.Zep's Orange Citrus Degreaser. It is around $9 for the gallon.
Fill up the warmed bong with the Zep's all the way to the top, do not dilute it with water. You will need to find a stopper to put where the down stem usually is. Shake it for 30-60 secs and let it sit overnight. Check to see if the resin has come off, if not shake again and let it sit. It should be clean by now.
