better to have two seperate flower tents or one big one?

I am getting my plans together for next winter. I am coming out of my 2x3 closet and 400w hps. My original plan was to have one veg tent. And have two flower tents so I can harvest approximately every month ( I know its likely more like every 6 weeks with longer running strains). Anyways I am looking at getting a 600w lumatek and im wondering about just buying a big ass tent and have bother lights in there, start with one on until I get the 2nd half filled and then have 100w in the tent. I also have a MH bulb for my 400w ballast. Anyways would one big ass tent w two lights be better than the 2 seperate tents?

Good question. I don't really know but to me it seems that controlling one environment instead of two might be less work. Just speculation on my part.

Well I will already have two enviros having a veg area seperate grom the flower room. Iwas checking sizes and I like the agromax xl size. Which is aprox 8'x4'x 78" height. Also I have a 6" 450cfm can fan that should be able to handle 1000w of light. I am already leaning toward have one big tent with the two lights. Just didnt know if any of you have experienced both.

The only problem I see is the 400 puts out almost half the light as the 600 will, a 400 is really only effective in a 3x3 or less. If it was me I would get another 600 for a total 1200 watts which is perfect for a 4x8 room

Thanks maybe I will get another 600w at some point, I guess I should have gotten a 600w to begin with, but I started in a 2x3 closet and never really intended to do more than grow in that closet. But growing has pretty much consumed the room that the closet is in.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I like what ^^^^ he said for the most part. I have 1 big area with 1 600 and 1 1000 and its tricky where the 2 lights meet from the height difference between the 2. With a 400 and a 1000 it's going to be even more of a difference in the 2 heights where 2 tents no issue and it's easier to get rid of heat from 1 light then 2. Also if you run your tents at opposite times it'll help keep the whole area cooler which will make it easier to dissipate the heat from their also if not vented straight outdoors. Good Luck!

If I had room I wolud definitly go with two_One reason is it would increase your ability to acomodate different strains different strains more easily and it would make a pepetual grow easier(I have a pepetual grow in one)less moving plants to get at others(inspect, trim ,or water)when you need.

I would run 2 tents just for the fact that you never know what may go wrong, light failure, timer, bugs, mold etc

That way no matter the situation you will never be completely assed out.

Plus you can start 1 wait a month start another and have a 1x monthly harvest to keep things consistently coming variety etc..many good reasons

Thanks for the replies, I guess I will see what the cost is. I will be slowly accumulating what I need for next winter. Have any of you ever used one can fan on two lights? Im using air cooled euro reflectors 6" duct 454cfm can fan.

Ive ran a 4x8 very similar to how you describe due to amp limits (1 600 1 400)..the plants under the larger light will flourish, while the other ones not so much. It works, but not very effective imho. Too much work to control the environment with more plants also. I'm currently switching over to 2 4x4s Perpetual. I already like the smaller tent better as its easier to dial in..I can produce roughly the same yield with 2 plants under 1k as with the 4 under 1k spread out with less effort..also its nice to break up the harvest. Two smaller amounts to deal with vs 1 huge amount every couple months.

I am still undecided, I can see how doing a perpetual in one big tent might be more difficult and having an even canopy to get the most out of the light would be tough. I plan to have a perpetual harvest whether it be one big tent or two 4x4s or maybe two 5x5s. I have never used a grow tent so idk if its nice to have a slightly larger tent for a little extra room to work or not. I will likely be getting a led light in the next year also, no idea if I will just use it to veg or add it into the 400w tent and see if 400w hps + <200W LED will out grow a 600w hps. And I will likely run one strain per tent. Hell I might have to make a bigger area to veg. Drawing a mockup of the room and looking at tents. Btw the room is 11'6"x9'6". Anyone else had a small grow turn into a whole room thing? I mean I might as well, with a 400w and big ass fan in the closet you cant be in the room without noticing, but cant tell a thing was going on from outside the room at all.

I have a perpetual grow in a 5 x5.the plants have to be trained alot but I have 9 plants in there under a 600.The plants have to be kept small but I can yield 1-6 oz/plant depending on strain and am able to harvest one about every week(sometimes I have to wait for one).

Damn, care to share the strains and breeders that got you 6oz a plant? I got 2oz each off 3 plants under a 400w, hoping for a little better this time with 4 plants an a little more experience.

Only one I got 6 from was Barney's Farm 8-Ball kush>It grows huge colas and a pile of thick fat branch buds besides(it's also really killer shit).Scary thing is that was my first grow I got a couple fresh sprouts started and am going to clone the piss out of it this time. I hope that the strain is stable and I can duplicate last years success(seeds are left from same package).

Thanks, heard a few good things about barneys here and there but I will check em out when I get ready to make another bean order. I have been pretty happy with the strains and phenos I have come upon so far. How big is your veg tent? I made my veg area out of those cheap plastic storage racks, pool toys, and a combo of white and black plastic display backing board (not sure exactly what to call it but I get it from work for free). I have no problem keeping a clone or two while vegging 3-6 plants for a month to get ready for the 400w. But I suspect I will be making. Slightly bigger veg to keep two flower tents going. Along with clones and mothers and all that fun stuff. Pretty soon I will just need a bigger house.

I have a hidden jarden DR 90 T it is a double stacked tent with 2 seperate compartments.I was using just the 3 x 3 x5 section for all my veg and my clones but have now set up the 3 x 3 x 2 for my clones and seedlings (I keep both full to capacity at all times because I just can't seem to throw any cutting I make that might root away)but I kindof wish I had gotten the 4 x 4 double stack instead of the 3X3 I just can't fit enogh in...LOL:bigjoint:I try ro keep 10 in one gallon containers in veg and at least 2 in 4 gallon pots ready for flower at all times.
