attempt 2- a few lighting questions

hello ladies and gents, i am back.

for thouse pof you who have no idea who i am (that being all of you :P) i was on here about 3 years ago with a few questions about my first, disaterous attempt at growing the best plant in the world. well im back, 3 years later, with attempt #2. this time around i understand thing much much better, and am better prepared. i got my seeds last thurs. and i already have nice 3in. tall plants.

now, i had origonaly intended to be cheap and use a bunch of 100w incandesent bulbs, but after some reading (after i already bought the bulbs ofcourse) i found out that the light spectrum given off by incandesents promotes stem growth, not foliage growth. thus, cursing my short sightedness, i whent to a hydroponics shop today and bought 3 120w sylvania spot-gro lights. so here is my question, will this suffice for 5 plants in a small closet? (im prety sure i already know the answer). will this sufficefor the moment (in seedling stage) untill i can get more lights, if not? and for how long do you think this would work before it became mandatory that i buy more? i want this op to turn out good this time, and not result in the horrors of last time, so please give me your council, even if it means spending more money (or in the worst case scenario, destrying/giving away a few plants).

thanks for your time and effort,
Sven.

(p.s. the story of the last op shall be given apon request, as it is rather hillarious, looking back upon it. you can get an idea of how bad it was from my first post here: https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/68224-indoor-grow-op.html)

should have gotten some cfls. not familiar with the grow spot lights. i did al ot of reading before i stepped up & I don't recall anyone growing with those on here

hope it works for you, but i would go get some cfls. you need the 6500K for veg & 2700K for bloom.

mix em up :) but you def need to up the lighting

Compact florecents? how many, you imagin i would need, i was going to buy some, but i when with the spot-gro's cuz 3 of em had more lumens then 4 CFLs, also, my room is fairly cold, and these lights had the added advantage of heat.

no, bobmarley123, i wish i lived in scotland, but im up in canada, trying to support the legalization of marijuanna in a more... active way then petitions, and rallies :D

Edit: i just noticed that one of my plants has a sort of branch comming out of the stem, underneath the soil. i had origonaly thought i was a root, but apon closer inspection i noticed that it seems to be forming something like a leaf at the end of it... wtf? is this normal... or rather should i ask, is this good? and if not, what might have caused it. its still very small, but ill try to get a picture for you guys to diagnose.

okay so for the vegi stage you need about 2500 lumens for a nice grow

later in flowering your need 4x that amount

I tryed to take a pic of the mysterious limb, but its took small, the picture comes out blurry- ill wait till it gets bigger, then snap a shot.

as for the light problem- i went to canadian tire and picked up a tonne of wire, a few light sockets and some wall plugs and made 4 lights (without bulbs ofcourse) which i intend to fill with CFLs asap (tomorrow- as the hydroponics shop is closed, and i dont wanna buy them from the grocery store). this will bring my total light count up to 9. 3 spot-gro 120w, 2500 lumen bulb, and 6 CFLs of unknown wattage, but which apparently produce about 2100 lumen each, bringing my total lumen amount up to 20100, im hoping that will be enough to keep my plants alive till my next pay cheque.

if all 5 are female, im going to have to kill/give away 2, cuz im deffinity not purchasing a further 14 CFLs. if i get 3 females, i can accomadate 4 more CFLs (just barely) for 10000 lumen per plant for budding. for the first time ever im hoping i get a couple males :P

also, something i forgot to ask above- what kind of light should i be giving these bad boys right now as seedlings- as in for how long should ibe giving them light, at the moment, im doing 12/12 ( i know i can get this info from the FAQ, but since im already writing this...)

all cfl's come in a certain K = kalvin that is the spectrum of the light bulb. with vegi stage you need 6500 K (daylight) cfl and for flowering you need 2700 K

Just to let you know some strains dont require alot of light, but the more light you have the better cuz MJ cant get to much light (befor that would happen they would burn) lol

GL bro!

cool set up ive got a little cupboard exzactly like yours lol just threw a shelve in there and some heat blankets planning on using it for a veg cupboard . loving ur grow btw and good luck !!!! keep me updated with those pics my man !!! FREE THE WEED

Oh and i think you could get those bulbs a little nearer the actuall plants looks like alot of the light u have is going to waste

and if you end up with all females why dont u just take clippings and that way u could sell those or just while this grow is goin on save up for a little hps etc sorry for talking so much but your grow has got the petential for being a good one so again sorry for talking like fuck haha and again good luck with ur grow
