Great thinking. I'd hate to be doing that every day, though, with more than just a couple plants.

If you don't want to get gnats in the first place I would recommend getting some predator mites. They'll eat anything in the soil they can handle, but they love gnat eggs and larva.

Yeah, I guess that would get a little aggrivating if you had a crop you were doing... LOL, But it is a pretty easy way to do it if you just have a small amount of plants... :)

Damn, that is a super interesting idea!

The sand works for me, and to deal with that watering issue, I just water from the bottom .

But it would be nice if someone sells just a steam machine so you can just take a little tube and inject it in various areas around the soil.

Be careful not to steam your roots though... LOL
