400W or 600W?

I went to the local indoor gardening shop to buy a 400W light for my 3x3 growroom. The sales clerk convinced me to go with a 600W.
Is this a bit of overkill?
I've heard that there's no such thing as too much light, but there's the extra heat and electricity to consider also.

Problem solved, sounds like you made a good choice. i believe you can dim it to 50% and 75%, just bump it up as needed. If it gets to hot, turn it down. I think you made the right choice!

That's good to know. I'm totally new to indoor growing and I'm hoping to get it right.

no he did you a favor. once you fill that space up you will see how much light the plants soak up. you have 9 square feet and your 600 emits about 90,000 lumen so that gives you 10,000 lumen per square foot which is right about up to par with the sun and right where you want to be. just be sure you have an aircooled hood, a proper fan, and good ducting away from your space.

and then when you makes a bigger grow u can use same light but use good cfm rated fans and aircooled as other said

if clerk was owner of shop i would say he was more concerned about selling something lol

I'm considering using the SCROG method. The reason being that I'm legally limited to a maximum of four flowering females according to the terms of my medical personal production permit.
Oh well then, supercrop the shit out of those ladies then. Top, Top, Top, LST, Expand, MONSTERS, scrog will get you good results, but supercropping by topping the hell out of those plants will give you TONS of bud.

And for the record, a 600w puts out roughly double the light of a 400w, but only uses 50% more power. 600w lights are hugely efficient compared to 400w and the extra intensity will give you donkey dicks instead of buds.

It definitely depends on your spacing. with a 3x3 room... i think the 600 would be fine.. just have it raised a bit higher, bc obviously it creates a bit more heat. make sure it doesnt burn the tops! also... like they said 600W will make more penetration, meaning it will go down further into the canopy and you will get more yield on bottom flowers.
this is worth to consider solistek ballast :1000_watt_dimmable_ballast.png
You can run the 1000-600-400 all with the same ballast. so when u want to bump it up you can easily without having to buy a new ballast.. they have one in a 600 watt / 400 watt too.
