Im a new grower and I just topped my plant I was wondering if I dropped the piece I cut off in water would it grow roots

I don't use filtered water and I don't know what the temp is I order the metter that will tell me both. When my plant was small I mistakenly poured some nute on my plant it eventually snapped in half but grew roots back so I don't kno what its going to do. But it has been growing pretty fast...
