COB Manufacturers other than CREE or BRIDGELUX

Yes. Cree LES is 23mm and Citizen 22mm. So if you use the cree clip, it will hold. Citizen holders are smaller, as they accommodate the 2 holes on the cob, and will not fit cree.

Here a picture of 3 chips to compare: citizen clu046-1818 (4k ra80), clu046-1812 (5k ra80) and cree cxa 3070 (4k ra80). See how led density varies ? So far, the clu046 -1818 is the best chip I've had.

Anyone found a better deal for citizen than cdi ? Going through official regional distributors seem much more interesting (the 1818 costs only around $21/pc), but you need a registered business. Maybe we could set up a collective purchase ?

On a completely different sidenote, I have to admit that I'm fairly impressed with epistar chips. Came to test cheap 20W replacement boards for ceiling lights, 4000K, and they are doing great so far. Bright as hell. I'm going for some 50W epistar cob via aliexpress, and will post updates here...

+1. CLU044 is the precursor of CLU046. Behavior is slightly difference; Vf higher by about 1V. Output slightly lower. BUT they come cheap as hell; my regional distributor would send me a hole batch for free. It seems citizen is pumping new chips faster than they actually sell them... Assuming...

Thank you for the inputs. Good point about 4k @Abiqua, I use a mix of about 75% 4k and 25% 5k, but Idon t grow cannabis. Though I would recommend the CLU046 1818, much cheaper (around 21€) and efficient as cree. The 22mm LES is easer the work with than the larger models (which are also...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

Update: new lamps arrived, this time with true cxb 3070 and better drivers. Also, I asked for the lamp bodies anchor point to be slightly pushed forward, for better weight distribution. (I can post pictures if anyone is interested). So far so good: the new design works much better. Less heat...

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

My chinese lamps have a 10.5cm diameter heatsink, about 15cm length. The fin cut out offers about 1.5 times the surface of this new hs-usa profile, and they barely keeps 50W at 50°-55°C passive. Based on this experience, I'd say 2 inch is WAY under dimensioned even for 3070. The central shaft...

    PHILOSOPHY: Immanuel Kant

I happen to have studied some of Kant's writings, but I don't get OPs point: why would members of a pro-canabis forum profit from Kant's writing ? While I do agree there are some really powerful synthesis' in his work, late Kant basically turned into a moral pedant ... not really open to drugs...

There is one other main arg in favor of cxb3070 fitting this thread: with a 23mm LES it will fit on nearly every heatsink available for cpus or commercial track / down lights. If you are no fan of large aluminium profile like myself, 22-23mm les is the way to go.

Get an agent in Hong Kong. Have all parts shipped there first, than dispatched overseas. Jerry ships to china for free, as do most retailer over there.

CITIZEN sample arrived today: looking great! Love the holes to fasten the chip directly onto the heatsink, without holder. Though rubber washers will be needed. Also, notice model reference and serial number: that's the way to do it cree... No 52V driver yet, will have to wait another week to...

Thank you for the input. Can you specifcy the exact chip ? There are many CLU056 and 3618 is nearly. twice as powerful as 1825. I'm looking for the following chips (depending on price) CLU046-1812C1-503 CLU046-1812C1-403 or CLU046-1818C1-503 CLU046-1818C1-403 plus one CLU055 4000K ra80 to test...

@nug jug All depends on screw quality. Sometimes it's so bad, you need 3-4 of them to make do the tapping. I would take good quality stainless steel right away - works great. Remember to go slooooow. Like a turn per min max.Torx helps during tapping: better hold. Color temp is widely discussed...

Thank you for the input. Same here; than you go on and contact regional distributor which tell you they don t do retail. Pretty stupid. Maybe we should petition citizen... or just buy something else! I mean' even nichia chips are easier to find!

No idea - didn't try any of them. Feel free to share your experience! For the rest, I wrote an official letter to Citizen/jp about the lack of availability of their chips in Europe. Let's see if I get any reaction. Maybe more free chips! Would love to try out the CLU055. Overall, SupraSPL and...

Aluminium soldering is not very complicated, but I wouldn't advise it, as most aluminium items are coated, which results in an incredible mess during soldering. For the rest, you can easily drill without a press. Doesn't matter if the screws are slightly skewed - it will hold. As others...

Just saw it. Has been updated during the last days - dunno why.
