In my opinion you're going to need a PH Meter or PH Test kit and a TDS meter to get a better idea if that water is safe to feed. If you supply pictures of the problem plants it can help with diagnosing.

I don't think the distance is in relation to the spots, I was just curious. With my Mars Hydro LED I had issues with the tops getting too close after stretch on my first grow. If you can't move it any higher in your tent I can foresee it becoming an issue after you flip 12/12.
