Both are strain-dependent properties. As the product cures, chlorophyll and its byproducts diminish and the true colors come out. Some bud is red, some is brown, some is gold-like, and some is brown. If you're choosing a hygrometer other than a Caliber III or a Hydorset/Xikar, you can't fully trust the readings. To answer your question, you can store a good hygrometer for a very long time. At this point, I think my oldest Caliber is ~9 years old. Then, it was a Caliber II. Good luck. Simon
