Whats up guys, had some bag seeds and decided to grow for my first time. Got set up with a 400w hps reflector and an 400w apollo ballast they've been under 24/0 light 3 weeks from seed. Through some experimenting I light burned a couple of the early leaves on a couple of the plants but all the new growth looks pretty healthy i think. Today i attempted to super crop a couple of the plants, also tried topping em. I've transplanted the bushier one of the 4 (which i believe is blueberry diesel) twice and changed soil from a topsoil to some other nutrient soil and then finally i bought fox farm ocean forest potting soil which i really like but it brought some little fruit fly's i think but its not too big of a problem yet. I would LOVE some feedback on my grow and the techniques i used. The supercrop looks good. They look mostly healthy, a little yellowing. Might want to feed some epsom salt for magnesium, MJ is a magnesium hungry plant.I think I saw some minor nute burn but nothing to worry about yet. Get a temp/humidity meter if you don't have one yet. That closet is going to leak light so figure that out before flipping to 12/12. Those "fruit flys" could be fungus gnats... look into a product called mosquito dunks.

I agree that the light needs to be closer.

I started out growing in a closet with a 400w light myself. I usually start out with my light about 2 ft. away and let them grow into it. You can get a 400w light about 12" from the tops during flower without burning as long as you have a fan blowing in that direction. Maybe even closer than that. If you keep the light to far away, then your plants will have the tendency to stretch. Plus you will be wasting your lights lumens by keeping it that far away. Anyways best of luck!

The rope ratchets will do the trick and make your life much easier. A fan blowing air horizontally at the same level as the fixture will help with getting the fixture closer to the plants without burning them. Since you're running a bare bulb you could also consider running it vertically with out the reflector and using a floor fan to blow air straight up. Good Luck!
