Can i Grow in 50% shade cloth structure?

I figured if the sun is 100,000 lumens per square meter at the Earth's surface and a 400 watt hps is about 55,000 lumes, then 50% shade cloth should be approx 50,000 lumes so i'n theory they should do well?

or am i missing something?


They will be getting 10 plus hours of sun per day.

thanx mate, ive seen your grows before, but i was of the understanding you only use the shade cloth on the sides. Do you also use it on the roof?

Yes you can, but it's not water proof, and I use plastic for rain protection ....

Shade cloth is awesome. I put one up over my veggie garden this year. The plants were super happy, I didn't have to water as often, and I could work in the garden without getting baked alive (not that kind of baked, stoners ).

if its really hot, shade cloth could be a great thing. they make different configurations of it too - you can get one that lets in 70% of the light for example... but even 50% ought to be enough... you're thinking along the right lines about the strength of the sun - I read somewhere that a 1000watt hps bulb, placed 18 inches from the plant top, produces a light something equivalent to midday sun in early July at the 38th parallel... so a thousand watter is half the strength of the sun at its peak in other words - and they still crank out great buds - so yeah shade cloth should be fine too.
