First successful (so far) grow (closet)

Sooo another Update...

I switched to a 90w led UFO (45x3w LEDs) to control the heat issue I had with 1 23w(100w) CFL bulb. I think I'm getting a lot more light for the same amount of heat of 1 CFL bulb. I hope it won't effect the grow from drastically changing the lighting.

The LED UFO has an 3 inch intake fan on the back, 2 heat sinks inside the unit with fans blowing out the exhaust fins on the side of the unit. Keeps the lights cool :)

I also attempted to LST (which I assume is to let more light hit the plant and keep her shorter with paper clips...) I hope I didn't fuck things up too badly... Did I do an OK job? I know I didn't do a good job there lol.

I just watered them here in the next pic which (I think) is why the leaves are drooping a bit)

I just went out for a few hours and came back to a room smelling like veg. At least I know something is happening with the plant, its still alive and seems like its liking the new lights! =D

I'm still very curious how people manage to keep the smell under control in closet grows where the only way to air it out is by cracking the door. I do have an air purifier (w/ a carbon filter) in my room and activated carbon sitting behind my fan (hopefully) getting rid of some of the smell from the plant but I still smell it after a few hrs.

I'm considering getting something like this http://www.onaonline.com/prod-onagel.php to help with the odor. Probably going to drop by a home depot or lowes to see if they sell it there or a product like it.

ona gel can cover it. but a negative pressure room with a carbon scrubber is best
I just hunted down some Ona Gel and its doing a good job so far. It was also pretty cheap (In Canada) for the amount I got (1 litre for $20). Got rid of most of the smell (according to my gf when she came home) and I only had maybe 1/20 of the jar sitting in the closet for about 5 hrs or so.

It was a good thing I searched around for the cheapest I could find cause with shipping, 1 litre of Ona gel online with shipping was like $40 to Canada everywhere I looked.

Home Depot and Lowes here don't have anything like it where I live... Had to find a hydroponics store.

30oz thing of ONA fresh linen completely covered the smell of my 400w from veg to trimming man that shit smells GREAT. Takes my room from smelling like a garden to pool full of skittles in like 5 seconds with a fan on. Get like 2 of those 30oz gel bottles, it's all you'll need for 90w of LED guaranteed

Hmm 30 oz = 0.88 litres.

At the moment I just cut off the bottom of a water bottle and put approx 2 tablespoons and the smell is almost all gone. I just want to get an idea of how long it will last and what happens to it when time passes (does it dissolve or melt?).

Since I'm already here, might as well post an Update.

Day 25:
Day25a.jpgDay25d.jpg

Not much happening, just more pistils shooting out and a little bigger than yesterday.

Also, I'll probably be making a timelapse at the end of this grow since I'm taking most of my pics every other day.

Couple of questions if anyone cares to answer:

1. How much water am I supposed to feed it? At the moment, I just wait until the first 2 inches of soil is dry before I water again and I water until theres a bit of run off in the tray. Is this considered overwatering?

2. Is it normal for the humidity to be really high after watering? (Considering my thermometer/hydrometer (at least thats what I think think its called) sits in the pot measuring the temps/humidity.)

1] your watering it properly. i wait till i can stick half my finger in the pot and if its dry then i water it till a little bit of water comes out the bottom, i think its supposed be 20% run off
2] yes humidity will rise after watering, more so if its hot
so dont worry! you are doin good

1. perfect
2. sounds right, what is really high?
The little pointer thing is pointing at the most humid point of "too wet" on a 5 point scale between "too dry" and "too wet" (middle being 40%-50% as "ideal").
Currently the actual reading of the humidity is " -- ". Maybe my hydrometer is busted, but when I take it out of the grow room and put it in my bed room, it actually shows a reading.

Shit... I just searched it up and its not called a hydrometer... Anyways... The humidity reading thing.... Lol... I guess its called the "Humidity meter"

My bad man, didn't read that you had already gotten some.

2 tble spoons will probably last you afew days at least, even then the gel just get's dry and shrivels up so you can put that shit back in the orginal bottle, shake it up and use new ones while the dry ones absorb more of that oil in there

Sorry I haven't been updating for a while, been busy with other things :P

So during the time I was away from the forum, my plant suffered nutrient lockout and possibly moisture stress.

This is Day 30:
Day30a.jpg

I stopped taking pics for a while cause the gf took the camera (and still has it) but I took some cell pics and they turned out OK. They're looking a lot better from than they used to from the nute lockout after I flushed. I don't really have any before and after pics cause I stopped taking pics for about 5 days but take my word for it, they look a lot better than before 24 hours after flushing. Hopefully they continue to improve.

Enjoy! :P

Thanks.

I think I have moisture stress given the pointed down tips (referred somewhere on the form as an eagle beak or something). My humidity meter doesn't give me a reading anymore for some reason other than "too wet" at --%. I was thinking this would mean the humidity is at or near 100% or something but it doesn't feel humid at all. I even moved the meter out into my room and it didn't change from what was indicated. I tried putting a pencil holder full of rice and a fan blowing through it (heard it decreases humidity) but nothing changed.

So I have come down to 2 options:
1. Either the meter detecting humidity is broken
2. It really is too humid

if it's one of those cheap ass ones it's probably broken, once you can get one i'd go for a digital thermo/hygrometer

I think I'll pick one up cause the humidity status hasn't changed in a while now.

My plants seem to be showing some Mg and Sulfur deficiency on the TOP leaves that are newly sprouted (approx 2 cm long). Is it normal for leaves to show deficiency when they first sprout while the middle leaves don't? Could it possibly be due to the light being too close?

I had a 90w led UFO on top of my plant approx 2 inches away from the top and a 23w 27k cfl on the side 3 inches away.

At the moment, I moved the light up to see if it makes a difference. Any insight on this?

You should definitely move the led up, they usually need some distance to properly blend the light. Cal/mg deficiencies are fairly common, and easy to fix.
