Simple watts wpsf. Led 35-40. Hid - 60 - 65. If you have more watts on either. The plants will yield that much more.
When the say 350 watts of led will match a 1000 w they are talking in terms of usable light. Not coverage or yield. If you match in terms of yield 550 watts - 600 watts of led will match the yield and coverage of a 1000w
Yes led uses half the watts. It has targeted wave lengths and 80% - 90% usable light. Hid is not targeting specific wave lengths and has mostly wasted light. Hid has about 10% usable light and lights up a room more than it does anything for a plant. Eventullay everything will switch over to led and induction. In china amd japan they got rid of hps street lights and run retro fit induction bulbs now that are less than half the watts of hid. W
All leds have lenses now. Unless you built it yourself. Most use the 2x
