They are only tools

You got it! Every time you hear a whisper of guns control laws being tightened, gun sales go through the roof.

The NRA has been quite successful in this regard. Any coincidence?
I am an NRA member and have not seen or received an exhortation to buy guns. cn

I also collect wood working tools. I am much more emotionally attached to those than I am to any of my guns. I love hand planes, and chisels.

Try as I might, I cannot understand your point in the bolded sentence?

Gun owners claim that criminals would use knives - a statement that is intended to inform us that intent has nothing to do with capability, sort of implying that what is the true danger to society is imagination.

Are you suggesting that America's gun owners are simpletons who are brain-washed by the NRA?
I have spoken to this Desert Dude. Many gun owners believe that the weapon confers upon individuals a wisdom and ability that they would not ordinarily have. "arming teachers is the way to stop school shootings", "an armed populace is the answer to gun violence".

The NRA does indeed operate using scare tactics and those tactics does indeed influence gun owners to purchase more guns and more ammunition. No amount of explaination and reason will convince the average gun owner that Obama does not wish to remove their firearms.

Although it is a valid point, I don't think that the average gun owner thinks "I love my colt because it and it alone enables me to overthrow my government". No, I don't think that is it.

Why do people collect weapon after weapon, lots of people have more than the few guns they would need if they were to be actually and only "tools". I would need what in order to protect myself? A shotgun, a reasonably powerrful rifle and a few handguns, one I could keep on my person, one or two I could keep close at my work and or home. Now why own more? Of course there are the standard reactions - why do collectors collect anything? I had a friend who was involved in competition chain saws so of course he had a number of them.

very good point, and i agree, but i think i more meant to say, every person wants to feel like they can protect themselves, not only from govt. but anything that this person determines dangerous...i do not want to own a gun because i want to overthrow my govt, i want to own a gun so no one can overthrow me (harm me, take my land, take my possessions, harm my family, endanger me in ANY way)...the thing is alot of people in the USA have forgetten who,We The People, really are... this is just my opinion, thats all :peace:

As simple as I can put it is, gun owners don't want restrictions because 0.00000001% of the population decide to nut out and kill kids. In the last 3 months I have seen two police shooting that were completely unjustified but not a peep from liberals so when you come out guns blazing(pun) on this shit your agenda shows.

I have never heard a gun owner claim that a weapon confers wisdom or ability. Quite the contrary. What a gun does confer is the ability to defend yourself in a situation like Sandy Hook, even more so if you actually know how to shoot.

It is awfully accommodating of multiple liberal Democrats (Feinstein, Holder, etc) to collude with the NRA and participate in scare tactics to convince Americans that their aim is to ban guns.

In short, yes. Certainly not all of you, but a good majority for sure.

This same crowd is also convinced that Obama is a secret Muslim looking to destroy America, and Saddam Hussein was the mastermind of 9-11.

You watch too much liberal TV. Again because 0.000001% think that shit you show bigotry towards everyone. At least you exposed yourself early.

I didn't say everyone (your words, not mine), and I stand by that comment. The fact that 20 million people tune in every day to listen to the likes of Rush Limbaugh tell you that the sky is falling is all the proof I need. I have little faith in peoples ability to think for themselves.

because guns are so easy to get hold of in the states,it makes these kind of mass murders alot easier.if this kid only had access to a knife,it would have been impossible for him to commit this kind of crime.same with columbine etc,,,
easy access to guns makes murdering ppl alot easier.
and when this amendment was first made, they had single shooter muskets, not the kind of weapons available today.ppl shouldnt be allowed to own so many different poweful weapons and ammo, its crazy the gun collection some ppl have, like theyre about to go to war.

I am a bit speechless here. Most of the gun owners I know, myself included, don't much like the NRA because the NRA is too accommodating to the hoplophobes.

Thats the way I see it also....I know alot of gun owners, and I don't think any of them are NRA members......If there is they are a minority........When Obama got elected it was legal for a person to buy a gun.............Now if you are a pot smoker it is against the law to buy a gun.......So more than likely everybody on RIU is affected by OBAMA's gun reg's right now.....If you want to buy a gun you have to lie about smoking pot...........There could be a piss test coming to buy a gun......then everybody but the pot smokers can be armed.....That would suck........nitro..

WTF, you token on some good shit right now? Point out where I said "everyone". You agreed that a good majority of gun owners in America are simpletons and for justification you point to Rush Limbaugh's listeners which has nothing to do with your original statement. derp derp

Read your own post. Specifically the part where you say ".... you show bigotry towards EVERYONE".

I never said everyone. YOU did.

I liked this by mistake. In truth it's retarded, but Safari now won't let me unlike it. Just thought I'd straighten that out.
