Wouldn't that thing be giving off a red light?

This is an oil filled radiator. If I were to get a space heater, this would be the general type I'd be looking to get. I believe that these are "safe," yes?

Anyway, that thing still uses 500 watts, and I'm not sure if it would heat my whole room. On the other hand, the heat lamps come in different sizes (60 watts, 75, etc.), and I was thinking you could just place one or two near the plants to keep them warm.

my suggestion would be to try a ceramic heat 'bulb' if all you need to do is provide some heat to an enclosed area...

or something similar...search online for a better price

they come in various wattages, from 30 to 250. but remember, there's no way to tell by looking at them if they're on or off. you could get burned or burn something so use a ceramic socket with some sort of wire cage reflector. On the positive side, if they get wet they won't shatter, and you could keep them on at night without affecting your plants

This looks interesting. I'm not sure what a "ceramic socket" is, but I would imagine that I could place one of these in a regular clamp light with a metal reflector?
