How many 23w 6500k Cfls do I need to grow 4 plants?

I was thinking 10, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

Also I can't decide whether to use 10 23w 2700k Cfls for flowering or a 600w hps.

Let me know what you think, any advise is appreciated!

Thanks!

A 600W would be better for obvious reasons. If you can afford it, get it. Also if you're gonna have 10 6500k and 10 2700K. There's no harm in using both of them at the same time for veg.

I have 13 on 2 but thats flowering .. i had 6 6500's when vegging .. 4 on top 2 on sides

HPS are hot and eat up energy.. if you have the means then do it.. but CFLs work well too ..

see... (i took the side lighting out for the pics )

Okay so I'm thinking I'll go with 12 Cfls for vegetation and then a 600w hps for flowering. I've made my own growbox and its 48 inches tall by 38 inches by 32 inches. I can fit 4 plants inside here without any problems? they can touch right?

I would suggest 6 per plant for veg. 4 on top and 2 on the sides.. Come flowering time u will want to get a LOT more. The flowering bulbs are stupid cheap. 3 for a dollar at most places. pm me for info

I use 750 actual watts CFLS both 2700k and 6500k throughout my entire grow. I grow 3 plants at a time and haven't been disappointed yet.

the plants can... the lights can't. if that is what you are asking.. just know it will get HOT in there with an HPS.

lol with 6-8 cfl bulbs per plant for 4 plants in there its gonna get pretty much just as hot as a 400watt HPS.....And I really want to see how safely wired that many bulbs are....sounds like either a ton of light socket splitters or a ton of wires....

With that amount of CFLs I would just run bigger ones and have T5s or smaller CFLs for side lighting. I have 68s and they are big but save me room total. 4 68s or 12 23s. Eh lol

I was growing 5 plants in 2.5x3.5 area and i had 4 23w and 6 26w (all 6500k) and the temperature was crazy hot about 90f. I took off 3 bulbs and added a small exhaust and the temp went down to 82-84f. Idk where I was going with this, i guess that to be aware that these bulbs do give off heat. Im sure the exhaust helped too.

Any bulb is going to give off heat, just CFL's give off less. If you have 400watts of CFL's right beside 400watt HPS, the CFL setup would put out a little less heat. But the lumens for HPS are like 3x CFL, so....If you can exhaust the air effectively, go with HPS.

just buy two 250 watt cfls from a hydro ponic store with a reflector and your good to go. haveing 30 bulbs is a waste of time.

I personally think your space is too small for 4 plants.
I'm with this guy unless you are planning on growing 4 plants with just one cola....No way you are gonna fit 4 multi-branch plants in that space without significant leaf overlap which would diminish yield...2 or 3 would be better.

I just starting germinating 2 feminized auto seeds and I plan on doing another 2 feminized seeds. Considering the autos will be done in about 2 months compared to the regular feminized taking 3 months won't my space be adequate? Trying to work with what I got :p Plan on making a journal for my first grow as well :D

if your going to go with that 600 in that small of a space your probably gonna want a cooltube reflector with air being pulled in as well as out to keep the temps down. no booster fans either. your gonna want a fan that can pull around 400cfm
