All a seed needs to germinate is moisture and a temperature range between 50-90 and your good to go. There are other factors involved though and if you will germinate your seeds between 70-80 degrees you will have a better ratio of females. Warmer temperatures tend to produce more male plants.

I read somewhere a couple years ago that sprouting under a higher temp (k) bulb will produce more females, so 5300k will produce more females than 2300k. Like sub already said sex is not predetermined in regular seeds.

I use hermie pollinated seeds from a friend and got all females last year, and none of them hermied on me. i think thats the only way to know in advance. Im using them again this year so we'll see if it works again. Im pretty sure that is how seed banks make feminized seeds. they use hormones to turn a female herm and pollinate the crop, rather than cross breeding with a male.

some folks believe in the light temp. theory as do i.....it makes perfect sense.......if the late spring , early summer sun is simulated (5300K), the plant may recognize that it has sprouted with time to live out its natural life cycle.......if it is sprouted under red light (2300K), simulating late summer sun, it may recognize that time is running out thus go male or herm to insure its survival.

i have always heard to veg under t5s and to not use a heat pad.

i germ in soaking wet rapid rooters. i have had essentially 100percent success rate. i have had 70-80% female as well...

i truly believe rapid rooters are awesome and crucial to my success. i have terrible germ rate sticking em straight into soil

A good tip is put your seeds in a bag with some banana skin, and as the banana skin rots its produces ethylene- this is a natural chemical for determining the sex of a plant. When a plant is exposed to ethylene it creates the female hormones.
also place some around the seedlings, but watch for insects as they are attractd to the ethylene also.

i am working on a strain right now, that i want to name after a sexy, mature, woman, like one pushing fifty, but still sexy as hell, like the milf....a cougar per say......it's called 'The Coooosche"......thats why i nearly shit myself, when mz.jill announced her new cross on danko........she said something remarkably similar....i have to ask sub what she calls it exactly...

If you really want to increases your chances at getting all fems then all you need to do is keep your day time temps no warmer than 75 df and your night temps with in 5 df (70 df)

Yep, what he said. + I find that less transplanting / stress helps out alot. I know seeds are expensive and I understand that papertowel poping of taproot then going to substrate lets ya know whats going on a bit better but honestly the more you mess with it the more stressed out it gets. Be confident in rapid rooters ,rockwool, or loose seed starting mix. Keep it at 70-75f and be patient, you will be rewarded. -TGL-
