Pablo's Socal Balcony Grow

I inspected my Kush this morning and, right on schedule, found little white moth eggs on my buds. Now I get to see if the BT really does do what it says it does. I also found some tiny spiders. Not sure if they were the dreaded spider mites or not, but I soaked the plant with Neem this evening. I will start tenting the plant tonight as well. And I will reapply Neem in 3 days. Let the battle begin!

Just some updated pics. Both the Big Devil and Diesel Ryder are full on flowering now, as is the Kush. I should've tented them earlier. I'm an idiot. First three pics are the Kush.

Big Devil and Diesel Ryder are at day 32. Despite the bigger pots and LST'ing, still no noticeable difference in size and/or side branching.

The previously harvested Blueberry and Big Devil are now in jars and curing.

And my recent order from Attitude showed up today with a shirt that actually fits. And all of the freebies. Money well spent.

A total autofest:

I took advantage of Attitude's promotion. I ordered one (1) Advanced Seeds Sweet Dwarf Feminized and a pack of three (3) Easyryders.

The freebies: 1) UFO #2 Kannabia Seeds Automatica Mataro Blue Feminized; 2) UFO #1 Kannabia Seeds Automatica La Blanca Feminized; 3) Short Stuff Seeds Onyx Feminized; 4) Short Stuff Seeds Blue Himalaya Feminized, and 5) Short Stuff Seeds Super-Cali Haze (super auto)

I suppose I could start another auto crop. Not sure which ones I should plant, tho. I need to do a little research on them. I picked the Advanced Seeds Sweet Dwarf because my Advanced Seeds Top 69 produced more than any other auto I've grown. I might save that one for next year. Definitely too late to try the super auto.

No chance of doing an indoor grow?

Looking good man. Those fuckin bugs need to give u a break!!!
Thank you Big, welcome back. Yeah, the trials of growing outdoors in Southern California. If I put these tents on soon enough, I think I will have the moths/budworms beat. It's my own fault for not doing it sooner. New avatar, isn't it? Cheers.

Nice shots Pablo! Them nugs are certainly filling out more and more!

I don't know man, I think it'd be sweet to do an indoor grow - no fancy hydroponics, but a good soil grow under some strong cfls if you already have em. It'd be a more controlled environment and you most likely wouldn't get the bugs or mold that you've been getting. it's true that there's no light that can match the intensity of the sun, but you can control the environment and protect the plants more if they're indoors.

Just my two cents,
again, nice pics man! The lst has definitely filled out well - good to see the girls are going strong. 8)

Thanks King, with the buds filling out, the moths are moving in. I inspected again this morning and found more eggs. So, either the moths are also laying eggs during the day - or they crawled around my tent at night until they found an opening. I even found one fully developed worm, who didn't appear to be suffering any ill effects of eating BT tainted leaves/bud. The little bastard fell as I was trying to get him and I lost sight of him. I've removed every egg I could find. I'm going to get a bigger piece of tent material and make it go all the way to the ground, completely isolating the plant.

About indoor growing: I am able to grow enough during the summer to last me until next season. I don't want to deal with the hassle of remodeling my closet, lights, electrical safety concerns, etc, etc, etc. For me, it's just not necessary. It would turn a fun little hobby on my balcony into a chore.

Makes sense. Also the BT is degraded by UV rays, so you have to apply it every 3 or 4 days for constant upkeep, maybe once a week...

Yeah, neem discourages the bugs from eating the plant, and you want the caterpillars to eat the BT, so you cant really mix the two.

Hey meezy, if you see this - any thoughts about the ugly bug on my Marigolds?
Sorry about taking forever to post back.
What you have there is called an assasin bug. They tend to be lazy and wait for bugs to eat with that straw like mouth. Alot like mosquitoes.
FYI I don't suggest touching it them with your bare hands as they do bite.
Heres a link :)

I have a small problem with bugs on my outdoor where I am as well. Besides spraying, try standing the plants a foot or 2 off the ground if you can. I have all mine sitting on top of pots that aren't being used at the moment which leaves them about a foot and a half up. I've noticed that it increases air flow as well as keeps the plant away from wandering bugs that roam to eat. I've also had a significant decrease in the amount of flying bugs on the plants (thrips, fungus gnats, leafhoppers, other flying annoyances that cause hair loss.)
Also try spraying the GROUND around your plants with neem oil, but use 3 tbsp per gallon instead of 2 because its going on the ground, not the plant itself so stronger is fine.
There are numerous carnivorous plants available to put near them too. Pitcher plants, venus flytraps, that sort of thing. I like getting ripped and watching the little fuckers die slowly. Right now I'm using one called a honeydew plant next to my indoor. It has lots of sticky nodes that bugs will stick to as the leaf curls over the bug to eat it.
This one is about 4 inches tall and cost me 6 bucks at home depot.
