My Stealth Grow Set-up... please comment

The night cycle on a plant is necessary and crucial to proper growth. Interrupting the night cycle of a plant in veg is more likely to stunt it than to cause it to grow bigger... Plants use their night cycle much like we do... Would you have a better day tomorrow if I flip the lights on at 3 am for a couple minutes? Yeah... and neither do your plants! lol
Plants do not, nor have they ever, required rest periods. "night" periods are only to force a plant to stretch for light.

And lastly, I wouldn't bother with the bagseed if you're only able to grow one or two plants. Statistically speaking, half the seeds you germinate will be males... a fluke could give you two males... You don't want to waste money now, but do you want to waste half a year if they turn out to be males? Get some feminized seeds and don't worry with listening to your witch doctor friend. :)
Feminized seeds are more prone to becoming hermies and are generally inferior if you plan on breeding.

I would recommend not circulating conjecture and opinion as fact. Stupid people may believe you without fact-checking and you may start to think you're right based on said stupid people's positive feedback.

well you can wrap the DIY carbon filter a few times to make sure it's not going to leak light.
You can also place a box around the filter, open on one side only, to help with the light leaks.Good luck JR

there are plenty of people on here who have grown feminized seeds with no problem at all, I think there is a post that someone had and they even tested a bunch of different strains in different conditions, not saying he was right either but whats you point of reference that all feminized seeds are inferior? Peace JR

he said they are "generally inferior if you plan on breeding" which I dont plan to do at this stage in the game so ya... QUESTION: I was thinking of getting a 150W MH for veg instead of CFLs... with a stealth dresser grow(dresser size unknown as of yet) do you think I would be able to manage the heat, or should I stick with CFls for veg??? :leaf:

well... couple more questions I think... I have been checking prices on the net and at home depot/walmart/lowes and I had a question about fans... I was looking on HTGSupply.com and they have a 4 inch inline duct fan for 19.95... http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46434 its only rated at 80 CFM... so I was looking into PC fans since I see lots of people use them... I found a couple 120mm fans(4.72 inches) that are rated at 90 CFM... so im probably gonna get a pc fan since they are cheaper anyways, but is 90 CFM enough for my setup?? and although for my first attempt I will have only 1 plant... later if I decide to add more will I need better fans or will these 90 CFM ones work still... if anyone could post a link to a site with super cheap fans with decent CFM that would be cool... also, what kind of ph testing/balancing equipment should I get... do I really need to ph the soil? water? nutes?

also... I read on these forums someone used a universal power adapter or something from radioshack to power their fans, this gave them variable speed... I cannot locate this thread, if anyone has a link to this or something similar that would be awesome... I cant remember what else I needed to post, if I was unclear about anything just ask and I will try to clarify... thanks for the help :leaf:

well... Ive got most everything priced and im looking at about $310 for everything if I go CFL for flower... or about $390 If I get a 150W HPS

these numbers do not include shipping from any of the onine sites im getting supplies from, but shipping shouldnt be that bad... and also does not include a dresser, i am getting one from a second hand place so this shouldnt be too much either

also I have still not gone to the hydroponics shop in my town to check prices there, so the cost might go down a bit more as well

All in All this project should be well under my original budget of $500 so ya anyways, thanks to everyone who helped me, in about 2-3 weeks I will be actually getting this all setup and getting something in the dirt haha :leaf:

I use two 80mm Vantec Tornado fans to vent my cab. It is rated at 84 CFM and I got them here. They also make a 92mm version that is 119 CFM. They aren't exactly stealthy, though since they are kind of loud at 55dB. I just used a power adapter from an old cable modem to power both fans. You want to find an adapter that outputs 12V and at least .8A if you plan on using the fans I linked you to.

I just use a General Hydroponics pH testing kit with the drops. I pH test all water that the plant receive and if I suspect a problem with pH in the soil, I'll test runoff to make sure there is no lockout. It is a good idea to pH test the water especially after adding nutes because they tend to mess with the pH.

actually I found a couple PC fans that doo 100 CFM so im going with those... getting 2 for 8 bucks so ya... if I decide to add more later its not that expensive LOL... and I have power adapters im gonna wire so thety have variable speed... but ya im using the same ph kit as that so ya... im super excited to get this all started... I just have to wait till I get my check so I can buy everything I need LOL bongsmilie

Can't wait to see this one started. I'm in my first grow myself. Just using bagseeds, but I started seven and only hope to get a couple females and my space isn't as much of an issue compared to yours.

PC fans seem to work well for these dresser grows because they are similar to PC boxes anyways, so that's what they are designed to do.

I would recommend making the most of your space. If the dresser is taller than it is wide, grow just a couple plants to fill that space. If it is wider, maybe grow two to four short plants topping them to grow out and putting the lights to the sides to grow out too. Just try to fill your space with light and plant to best suit the space.

As far as the light goes, the HPS is def going to put off more heat. Plus, in these smaller set ups, I feel like using multiple CFLs allows you to get the light all over the plant rather than just from the top. You might lose some size on the buds but you might also get more buds to come out for your space.

anyways, I'm subscribed so good luck.

thanks for the tips +rep glad to have someone sit in through this LOL... ya the HPS is gonna get hott... but I was thinking of getting 3 of the 100 CFM pc fans I found and use one for cooling the HPS... I have some mini fans for circulation inside the box as well so I think I will be able to handle the heat of the HPS, and its only 150W so it shouldnt be all that bad... we will see I guess LOL bongsmilie

Sounds like a plan. All those fans should keep it all cool. Are you going to use some CFLs as supplementary light ? I recommend it, but obviously everything's not possible, especially on a small stealth grow.

I was planning on getting a couple fluoro tubes for side lighting during flower... these are not a top priority at this point, but I will decide if I have the money when I get closer to flowering so ya bongsmilie
