Teeny Tiny Itsy Bitsy Plants for first attempt!?!?

Ok I have to laugh at my first attempt! After all the knowledge I have gotten on this website and applying it, I'd expect to have something substantial to look at after over 3 weeks! Not the case My plants are miniscule at best. In size they do not look much bigger than when they first broke the soil with the two leaf split. I can say however the are a little bigger than that, and look healthy. There are several tiny sets of leaves developing and spreading outward. When I look at them despite their small size I can say they look healthy. I have begun watering every 2 to 3 days with a small dosage of nutes! My third plant is holding on for dear life as it got a leaf singed from a 100 watt CFL! It barely touched it but the heat just made it look sick and dehydrated. It's kinda wilted still compared to the other healhty two. It got traumatized, and I am just trying to nurse it along like the others. I can say its still green with a slight yellowing on the bottom leaves. At this rate these plants should flower in about 20 weeks. You live and learn though. I am actually stoked that they have lasted longer than any other attempt to date. I have been giving them 18 hours light and 6 dark. I have 4 100 watts CFL's on three seedlings. I am going to try DWC next time.

LOL thats funny Doe, Nobody likes to admit they have a small one.

Three weeks isn't much time really. You probably noticed the growth the first couple weeks and now it seems like they stalled.

Well they haven't. they are just growing roots. watch what happens in the next week or so. They will make you proud. (as long as you dont burn them)

I might have misunderstood you but you can't give nutes until they are at least three weeks old! They maybe why they are dying:-| I would post some pics def!

I have waited the three weeks and am intriducing very diluted nutes about every three days with the watering. I do see some noticable growth on two of the plants this morning! They appear to be healthy, green, and leaves are growing larger, and speading outwards. The are so small I am wondering when I want to transplant them from thier standard solo drinking cups to thier final pot. Plant number three hasn't been right since it touched that light:cry:. I keep looking at it and it appears that it has stopped growing. Top leaves are green but wilty. Bottom leaves showing more yellowing. I refuse to trash it unless it is noticeably dead.

I see what you mean now, they could be a little bigger.
If you have not done it already poke holes in the bottom of the cups with a pencil. maybe three or four.

Get some air to those roots and help with drainage. I see the little critter that got fried.
My opinion, give it a few weeks and you wont tell the difference.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that the fried plant might come back. I never thought a slightly singed leaf could cause a plant to go into total sock! My only fear is that it is yellowing? Perhaps the nutes? Maybe I should stick to plain water on that one, until it's better?

I would feed it just like the others thinking it's needs are not any different.
Your plant wont react that way once it builds up a root system and stores nutrients in some fan leaf.
But right now yes, its a bit shocked. This is the most delicate time of its life,

It hasn't died already so I think it has a chance.

Have you considered trying a different medium when you transplant them? Maybe they don't like what you have them in now.:peace:

What type of soil are you using?

How big are you solo cups? These babies may need to be transplanted.

Are those cfls 100watts or 100w equivalents?

They definitely look healthy to me. My guess is that they need more room to grow or don't have enough light.

It has also dawned on me that perhaps my plants slooooooow growth is due to them not liking their potting mix or soil. My plants are three weeks old and almost ready to be transplanted into thier final pots. When should I do that by the way? Should I go with the same mix of 60 percent potting soil, 20 percent Perlite, and 20 percent sand for drainage? The main thing I dont like about my potting soil (Scotts) is all the sticks in it! I wanted a rich black soil with no wood bits. I think my roots may be growing slow because of these obstacles. My other option is that I have a couple bags of Miracle Gro potting mix I could use as the final transfer medium. I have heard good and bad about miracle gro. I think the nutients in that soil may be good as my plants are already taking small nutrients doses in their water. Your thoughts?
As for lighting I have four 23 watt CFL's that are each equivalant to 100 watts so 400 watts total on 3 seedlings. The solo cups are the standard size red ones. The plants are at the end of thier third week. Looking to transplant in another week? What mix should I put them in?

Ok, cfls can be tricky because they market them as equivalent watts while they are really only the smaller wattage listed. so 4 23 watt cfls is only 92 watts of light not the 400 watts they want you to believe. And 92 watts is a little on the low side for a grow. I would at least double you lighting or go with a 250 or higher watt HID lamp.

A fine filtered organic soil like Fox Farm or Black Gold would be better definitely. I would stay away from MG because in my experience it ended up just burning up my plants.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt because I'm still learning all this my self on my first legit grow.

those plants are nowhere near ready for transplant. By three weeks, my plants are a foot tall and screaming for transplant, so I sex them to not waste soil and then transplant. They grow to almost a foot tall in 16 oz. solo cups before I move them. If you tried to transplant those now you'd just end up with a mess because all the dirt would just fall apart since the roots aren't extensive enough to keep it in place. Either your substrate isn't what your plants want, or your CFL's are in the wrong spectrum, because they are healthy, except the one, but their definitely lacking something.
