600 Watt Distance?

Hello Fellow Growers,

I have recently ungraded my lighting power output to a 600 watt lumatek system.

I am looking for experienced grower opinions on lighting optimal distances from bulb to plant. I also have a cool tube, so please remember this if you feel optimal performance would be enhanced by utilising this device.

A few other details;

I will seek to grow two larges plants in soil in a grow tent measuring 160 cm (H)- 120 cm (W) - 60 cm (D)

Ventilation is quite good considering I have one intake and outtake fan and three small 'desk' fans placed at various heights.


An advice would be much appreciated.

imho i keep my 600 watt at about 4-6 inches depending on how much air circulation im getting, right now my air is good so i keep my closest top 4 inches away from my hps and have no problems, make sure you have a fan blowing 24/7 across your tops though or they will burn, i use a small oscillator and keep it on 24-7 and get my plants as close as 4 inches furthest away 6 or 7 imo no more than 11-13 inches with NO fan

Thanks for the advice Aknight, I will keep those distances in mind. Any other opinions on the matter anyone?
