black worms on roots!!

i have like 10 black worms on my roots there about 1/8 of an inch long. i sprayed down the whole plants with a neam oil soap water solution. i also added convict cichlid "small fish" which appears to have picked some off the roots.


I'm thinking fungus gnat larva not sure.


any ideas !!!!

not a bad idea. as long as the fish dosent mind living in the dark all the time lol. but ive heard of others doing this.
fish dont eat roots as long as they arent hungry
fish would eat anything else in there

and he already has black worms ive never heard of
cant get much worse off but he seems to have the situation covered pretty well.

checked this morning only could find 1 new worm, he was high on the roots so i picked him off and throw him deeper in the res were he got gulped by the fish. all the plants are growing like a least 1/2 a day still nothing wrong with the leaves. sure hope i worked this out.

i dont believe that he wanted to 'harvest' the worms. i think he intended those to be fishy food.

I wondar if you can grow a plant that is literally submerged under water.

It will be in a fish tank with the roots having its own compartment that block out the lighting and has a air stone inside and fully oxygenated. Then the leaves and stuff the water will be fully oxygenated and also with co2 gas(kinda like cold drink) and a water pump that pushes the water all around. Will that work? Its going to be a expensive setup but that would be freaking awsome growing weed under water.

wow I wonder if thats been done. Ive seen all kinds of plants grow successfully submerged in water that were not intended to be. But im sure some plants wouldnt be able to survive.

the fish is doing good. not sure what the ppm is. i add 1/10 nuts anyway couse its the res for the moms.which are growing so fast and thick even with low light and low nuts. more worms today... I'm using a tool meant for removing splinters to pick them out of the roots. is it ok to spray neam oil on roots? already have a little bit, wondering if anyone has tryed this?

Well, I've never seen anything like that before, but I'd say that you'd better do a better job on them than just tweezing them. Since it's a worm, some BT would be good, certainly better than Neem Oil for this. Or some other organic pesticide that's good for medium flush like Azatrol.

Hard to see see the thing good but could be a nemotode of some sort.Whats the water temp its lower then 70 degress F correct? you change the res and Im confused did you put fish in your res? If so they will die if your using nutes and they will change the ph and ppm by the minute.The wroms need better pic to see for sure maybe try a h202 additive to kill them off with super rich oxygen .Also you didnt use any soiless mix or anything right just clean rockwool and hydroton pebbles no rapid rooters or cocc mix?

these little buggers are fungus gnat larvae they can be killed in 2 days with gnatrol, or bacilius thurgenisis thuricide it's a natural bacteria that is 100% safe for plants people and even fish!!! check grow faq under fungus gnats and solutions. also don't wait too long your plants will stop taking in water and the worms burrow up the roots into the stems!! good luck!

thanks r32115 i ordered gnatrol and a bunch of sticky traps. but my fish seams to be doing a job on them i've watched him grab a few of them.

after my clones show sex and i find which mothers are in fact mothers can i tranceplant them to soil? it would free up that hydro system and give them a more care free environment maybe? i don't need the accelerated grow just enough to take 12 or so clones once every 2 months or so.

use cloning hormone gel and make sure you carefully monitor the ph of the soil and run distilled water. i don't know much about soil growing but i do know that proper care promotes perfect results...
