hmm the wife got me an aerogarden for my bday

well i just pulled it outta the box its a black aerogarden spacesaver 6. I didnt ask for it lol... i seen none on tv and said "hey thats cool" so automatically she thinks i want it...so now on to the subject at hand. Ive done a little research and yeah, im thinking about growing with it. Ive got extra cfls if i want to add them. Whats he potential of this thing? Who here uses one?

Id also like to know what kinda medium that is they use for it. Is the only way to get more pods is to get a master gardening kit and dig the seeds out, then put mine in? thanks in advance!!

I have a spacesaver 6 myself it works fine. What you should do it get an extra airstone and an extended figure 8 cord with a plug on one end(it is the cord that connects the light to the base you can get them at radioshack i believe) and plug it into its own timer than into the wall so that the light and pump are on different timers. The built in timer can not run on 12/12 so the small appliance timer and extended figure 8 cord are a necessity. You will need another light for flowering if you want some decent nugs.

no comment and thanks on the info lol. I can still manually turn the light off with the buton tho right? and still run 12/12 when i get to that point. it still runs with the light off doesnt it

Sure, you can work the lights manually but, only if you want to turn them on and off daily at about THE EXACT SAME TIME EVERY DAY for a few months. However, a figure 8 cord & a $10 timer is much easier.

It comes with that like sponge thing you have to take out seeds n put urs in. You can work the light manually but i tried to do that and couldnt be home every night to shut it off at the exact time. Sometimes i was off by an hour and i beleive i confused the babies. That in turn stunted their growth. so i would just go with the timer

i would recomend germinating theirs no harm in it and it ensures you look at bare dirt for less time

pop the seed in and put the dome over it when its about to touch the dome tae the dome off.

you can get a figure 8 cord from a playstation 2...
get a airstone and pump like the ones that go to a fish tank...
the aerogarden is better for clones but it is capable of growing from seed...with good results....also add more lights...if somebody said this already sorry to repeat....

ok thanks all i got a small airstone but i didnt know if i could just use the air line on the Aerogarden and splice into it or if i had to get a pump and a gangway valve or whatever they are. Im clueless lol Ive got it all together and its running hehe
so i have more ?s ill number them to make it easy hehe


1. so if i dont use all the pods on the AG do i just put the domes on the empty ones so that water dont splash everywhere?

2. Is the salad green setting ok to use at first? yeah im a noob

3. i got a figure 8 cord but no timer yet...damned radio shack is sold out....xmas lights i guess can i pull this off with additional cfls along with the AG grow light



thats all for now...ill take pics soon but they will be boring bc ive got nuthin growing

1. i wouldn't recomend leaving pods open if the light from above hits the roots of your plants through those holes it will kill the roots and then your plants. if you have the seeds just fill it up

2 i'm not well versed enough in aerogardens for this

3 you can get cheap timers at meijer / wallmart / most super stores for around 15 $ and its worth getting the air pump ( fish tank pump ) from the same store as well their also like 9 $ and they keep the roots well oxiginated and keeps the water from going stagnant

hmm ill have to find something to cover them with because i dont want to grow the stuff that came with it.... doesnt the aerogarden have an air pump in it already? i wonder i anyone has spliced an airstone in there or if its even possible.....hmmm again lol

its probley possible but is it worth risking breaking your new toy when a pump is 9 $ . also to cover the holes 1002 uses for duct tape ?

put like some tape over the pod sites your not useing...i have my setting on herbs and basil...but i found useing the aerogarden, all that stuff about which setting, is out the window...once you get the airstone, airpump, timer ,figure 8 cord...the actual settings are really useless...yea you probably thinking now i could have made this bleeping thing..

i only heard of people spliceing the cord to the lights instead of buying one...i dont like radio shack so i used a playstation2 cord...
