They knew 2022 would be a bad year but it wasn't as bad as they feared, 2024 however is a better year to gain control of everything and to blow J6 wide open. Putting Trump away for the documents and obstruction was a real gift to the DOJ and provided additional leverage for the J6 conspiracy case(s). Trump should be already gone to prison by the time the J6 conspiracy trials roll around and the focus will be on others who were party to the conspiracy, they already have Trump and if he appears in court for the J6 trial it might be in an orange jumpsuit.
As I said before, the only thing that makes sense of the delay, is prosecutorial discretion, exercised by Garland who has taken a lot of heat over it. He knew when he appointed Jack, roughly what his timeline was and once indicted the timing is in the control of a federal judge. Timing might not be everything in this matter, but it is important to get this shit in front of the American public just before the election and let them be the ultimate jury on the matter in 24. He kept busy busting the foot soldiers and let the J6 panel make the case public, something he could not, then came Jack.

At the rate things have progressed, it is conceivable that federal indictments will come out this summer or fall. Fall would be better, The case really shouldn't take that long, even if they let trump have a delaying tactic or two, and you don't want it to be over till....October would be great.
Of course, we could all be pissing into the wind, and have no idea what they will actually do, or why, until they reveal why.
There is no way on earth that the evidence and testimony in this case won't incriminate many others, and we have no idea who they intend to go after, and to what degree, or even in what order, they may have motivating information they don't care to make public.
So, sit back, get a beer, load the vape...this is a long, dark ride, keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times.

The documents case fucked up the timing I figure, nobody anticipated that even Trump would be that fucking stupid with all the shit he was facing. "They gave Nixion $18 million for what he had", the simpleminded fuck figured he could extort Uncle Sam over Top secret documents and make it a revenue stream. His lawyers and WH counsel must have been freaking out over this and he must have been told dozens of times not to do something so fucking stupid with all the shit he was in. So, things are happening a bit earlier than some wanted, Garland had little choice in the matter so he gave Jack the two cases that will put Trump away forever.

I think wisdom and patience prevailed and hopefully the results will come to fruition in 24. They had the J6 hearings finish up just before the 22 election and it blunted the red wave, but that was about it.

Jack or Fani, who goes first is up for grabs, the MAL docs appears ripe for prosecution, but J6 might take a while longer, they already have Trump, but J6 involves many others and reaches into congress. They are at his inner circle of lawyers and advisors and have that covered, but there were many meetings involving members of congress, a half dozen of whom who asked for pardons.

That was what the "map" part of the investigation was about. He wanted the docs for cash and ego, and he confessed the cash part to Hannity on TV, now to find out who he tried to impress with the documents like the kid they busted. In any case the two counts of obstruction of justice associated with the case each carry a life sentence for him.

An important detail to me is that such a conviction bars him from public office iirc.
On the other thing, if seditious conspiracy involving multiple legislators in Low Orange Orbit yields convictions, many of the GOP’s most toxic performers get purged. That should give some in the current base a bit of indigestion.
Heck; Mike Pence might get a figurative hanging! By standing back&by he was constructively a conspirator, if one considers his rather high office.
