Grandma needs help

OK, some of what you said went right over my head. Colas, sips? I still enjoy some container growing. And mixing my own soil is a must. Lovely compost from vegetables, moss and cow manure with enough sand to keep things loose. I have grown antique roses for years. I would like to grow a strain that has seeds. I love harvesting my own seeds. Packing them away after they’re dried to bring them out in the spring and tenderly growing them. Do you have any stains that you would recommend? Is it possible to order seeds for them? I believe you already recommended to seed house. What is the germation to harvest time? I live in North Texas and the heat here will kill anything! So in short growing season is preferable. Spring and fall make the best time to grow things. It has been a while, but like riding a bike, It comes back quickly. Thank you so much for your help.
welcome to RIU! the great thing about this place is you are going to get a wide variety of answers.

I would highly recommend starting off with reading https://growweedeasy.com - they do a really good job breaking things down very simply.

I would recommend skipping straight to using a premixed super soil from a known brand that works good for cannabis. something like this would be great and make so you just need to water the plants, no extra bottles or fertilizers needed:

there are some other great brands but that is a really popular, cant mess it up choice.

I also agree that using a SIP (self irrigated planter) like an Earthbox will take all the guesswork out of watering:

as for specific strains, one of my close friends has CKD and he definitely prefers very heavy indicas. Gelato comes to mind as one of his favorites, and is a pretty easy to grow and decent yielding strain. Lots of different breeders have crosses of this available right now. Ill let the other folks suggest best place to buy seeds.

Good luck cant wait to see your grow!

If you know how to organic garden treat it like a very hungry tomato.
If your in the states buy seeds from the best Great Lakes Genetics. They are great... also ... read the noob forums a lot ... and in the words of the most old school of people from here and the man rhe really spoke to my soul... "get off the internet, and back in your garden" Uncle Ben.
Thank you so much!

no problem! there is definitely a little learning curve but since you already know how to grow plants, you are way ahead of the game. for a lot of people coming here, they have never grown anything before.

growing from seed does pose some challenges since not all genetics are "stable" and may produce many different phenotypes. for some people this is desirable, for others this can be too far off the mark of what they were looking for. you can also choose between "regular" photoperiod strains, or feminized seed which will be all females. Again for many folks they have no desire to breed plants or make seeds, so all females can help them get buds easier since they won't need to weed out males. In your case, if you plan to breed your plants and make your own seeds, then a photoperioid strain is what you want.

there are a million different grow styles, and lots of different techniques. I definitely think supersoil + a SIP pretty much makes the hard part foolproof. you can tweak from there. the only other suggestion if you dont already have one, is to start a worm bin so you have a steady source of worm castings to top dress and re-ammend your soil.
