Help with auto flowering

Don't bother wasting time looking at pistols. I'm growing autos all summer. Just when they look done by the pistols they will shoot off more.

Yo I have to go by the trichomes. Really. If you follow no other advise follow this.

For autoflowers you have to look at trichomes to tell when its done.

Jewlers loupe (accurate), zoom in on your phone (kinda tell), or digital microscope (best way imo)

Pistils are the number one indicator of where your plant is in its life cycle. You don’t look at trichomes until everything else is in line. Not sure wtf these two are talking about.

That's what I always thought too until I grew my first autoflowers. I had 2 colorado cookies autos that were 12 weeks old from seed and one of them was still producing white pistils even though the trichs were Amber/ cloudy.

Maybe its an auto trait since I haven't had that happen with photos before.

I’m not saying don’t look at trichomes. I’m saying they are the last step. Not something to be looking at with tons of white pistils. And 3 weeks to go. It makes no sense

you cut your steak open to see the middle before the outside is done? Yeah you probably do
I like my steak well done. But again I know how to cook steak. I know to look at the juices running off not the outside to determine when its done.

Also if someone has a heat stressed plant close to done and it foxtail guess what?

New pistils will form but again that bud below it is done.

New folks will deal with foxtails more often than not.

Maybe just maybe stop thinking in term of growing for 10 years when you talk to people just starting out.

Crazy right? To think new folks can fuck they're shit up and cause issues......

Just unfathomable
Last time.

pistils are the “juices” of the steak you can see when the juices come out the steak is close. When the pistils are all swollen and the hairs are receding and MOST new growth is done. Then I check trichomes. But only when it’s close.

Any other time you’re going to see confusing things especially as a new grower. And btw I’m new too. So don’t think I’m some advanced guru. I’ve just done enough research and grown a few plants enough to know that pistils are the major indicator. And trichomes are the fine tuning of your high. IMO

I want to be clear here. I am not saying pistils don't matter. They are an indicator. But at the end of the day if my trichomes are 30% amber and rest are cloudy but the Pistils still don't look right to me. Im probably giving it 2 more days and its getting chopped regardless.

I dont like couch lock.

Right and that’s personal preference. When someone posts a pic. We don’t need trichome pics we need bud pics. Why is that? We can get close to the harvest window by looking at the plant. Then you can scope for trichomes.

new growers see amber on the leaves and grab the choppers. Even though it’s really weeks away from ripe.

First , never go by breeder harvest times . They lie.

Second , Autos have more than one indicator of maturity.

Third , you shouldn’t even looking until at Least week 9 .

Autos will mature somewhere under 90 days average

So you have never looked at the trichomes early out of curiosity?

I look early on every plant, every strain, damn near every week.

I do it because I enjoy watching the life cycles and how they form.

It is inevitable btw that if someone shows a pic of the bud we ask for trichomes. If they show just trichomes we ask for the pic of the bud.

Its what we do apparently.

Are checking calyx or leaf ? Because triches mature differently on leaf.

We do troll.

there’s nothing wrong with looking at them as this hobby has many things to keep us busy. While you’re looking at trichomes other growers are ph’ing the soil, some are mixing their soils, many things to do. So if you enjoy watching them thats great. I just don’t think they are the major indicator but are a piece to a puzzle.
