Question for Breeders/growers Veg time

Since some of you know much better than me that photo P plants have very different veg. growing /maturing speed time..
I was wondering why that information isn't shared in plant spec. when you look at it at breeders sites /info of the strain?

Like wtf do I have from 8 flowering week strain if I have to keep her 5-6 weeks in veg..

Because how long you veg is a choice... some people flip after 2-3 weeks, others wait up to 6 weeks(and longer). It depends on your personal style and preference and how much bud you want to ultimately yield... You can technically veg forever so there's no answer to the question of how long to veg... I personally let the plant tell me that its ready, so when I see pre-flowers while still on 18-6 then I know they are starting to be ready, on my last grow that happened week 4/5.

I agree that it "might" be helpful if breeders included an estimation of when the strain hits sexual maturity but those would be just as misleading as the flowering times breeders give. Growers would learn a lot more about how to grow cannabis if they ignored those numbers and just paid more attention to how the plants look during the grow.

As an outdoor grower my veg time is determined by when I germinate seeds at the beginning of the growing season. As has been said the time your plant spends veging is up to you. The longer you veg the bigger your plants get before they start expending energy on flowering.

I was thinking just that, what is their time until showing sex or pre flowers.. Coz I read that some are faster than others..

Most plants are sexually mature around 3-4 weeks. Some take longer
That is exactly why I posted this.. What if I'm counting on 3week and it turns to be 5.. So some general guidances or info should be good.. Like ace seeds has reccomend. veg. time for their sativas.

When do you start counting veg days? A lot of newer growers seem to start counting way too early when the plant is still in its seedling stage. I personally don’t consider my plants to be in veg until the first set of multi fingered leaves are grown out and the second set has started to emerge.

Similar like you.. But I'm 99% of time growing autoflowers.. Thats why I'm asking this questions.. I did only 2 photo grows in my 5y of growing.

You can only count on plants to be ready when they're ready. If you plant a 10 pack of seeds (same strain) some will mature before others. That's just how it is. Same with flowering. These plants let us know when they're ready, all we have to do is wait...

The only way to know for sure with a plant how long the various stages will last is to grow clones from a mother plant that has already demonstrated this phenotype. Seeds will also provide you with particular phenotypes (as advertised) but with seeds there is always a chance that the recessive genes can resurface in any individual seed. Seeds from the same plant can demonstrate different characteristics. Again the only way to know for sure is to work with clones.

Also you can always force a plant into flower. Some growing techniques have you start seedlings off at 12/12 so that they will go straight into flower. Even though plants will continue to grow in size in flower once they truly begin flowering the plant stops growing new nodes and puts its energy in growing all the bud sites it currently has. Let a plant veg longer it gets bigger and adds more nodes/budding sites. The longer you veg the more bud you’ll potentially get.

Ultimately what experienced growers do is find a strain that works best for their grow environment. Then you tailor your technique to fit your grow and your plant phenotype. SOG, training and topping, are ways you can maximize you grow to fit your area and technique. Choosing how long to veg depends on how you set up your grow area and technique.

ACE seeds recommends short vegging times for many of their sativas when growing indoors because they get so big and if people vegged for 6 - 8 weeks they would be extremely hard to manage indoors. Some of them can get 12 ft tall or more. I'm currently growing some ACE Ethiopian and they say to start flowering 15 days from seed. ACE provides much more information on their strains than most every other breeder. They put dates on their packs of seeds and have lab results on their website for most of their strains. And you're able to ask the breeder questions and get a response within a couple of days. They also have a complete section on another forum that I won't list here with threads for all of their strains. The breeder is very active and helpful to those growing ACE genetics. ACE does things the way they should be done. They don't act like they're something special like the arrogant US breeders and all their drama.
