I am new to this. What are they, and how do I know if they are swelling?

check the trikes ON THE CALYX, otherwise you may get FALSE readings. this happened to me, my trikes on the bud, in pic showed cloudy, but plant was two to three weeks out. be certain to go by trikes on calyx. one of the most valuable lessons i learned.
