Seed harvest and bud rot?

Judging from the wet start to autumn we’re having in Western Oregon, I am planning to chop some colas early as a hedge against total disaster. I’ve pollinated some colas intentionally as a DIY breeding project and I’m wondering how late I need to wait for the seed to develop. Does the bud need to be super ripe or past ripe? Also, if I wait a long time and bud rot develops, will it hurt the seeds? Attaching pics from a couple colas I pollinated. I trimmed the leaves for better access with my brush.

Yeah you can usually have a look and see if it’s nice and brown yet. Don’t see any bud rot, I always leave mine way past finish. Knocks me right out lol.

If you leave the seeds too long won't they be knocked out of the buds by the wind?
This is my first outdoor grow, and it got seeded. I know my neighbour's male did it, so I decided to keep the seeds. I'm watching, waiting for them to mature, so that I can grab them as soon as they turn brown. I don't want to have to poke around in my garden for fallen seeds.

The amount of seeds that will fall to the ground from wind will be so minimal i wouldn't worry about it. Just think, EVERY Pistil has the chance of being a seed.

About every week or so, find a seed and see how close it is. {but I'm not seeing any in the pictures}

And you can save seeds from rotten pot. My Poly Shunk 1 ({triangle kush cookies x nightcap} x shit/skunk) melted down. I shucked out lots of seeds from rotten bud. Just give them a quick bath in H2O2 water, and let them dry normally.

Yea that pic was taken like a day or two after pollination. I figure it must have worked because all the pistils turned reddish brown but stayed white on the unpollinated colas.
