It's styrofoam.it does look like perlite.
the only thing i know of that makes nodules on roots is nematodes. but that doesn't look like any of the infected roots i've ever seen.
it may be some kind of fungus. have you tried running some hydrogen peroxide through the system?
so even if that is the perlite it looks like, something is still wrong...The plant from the pick looks like its about dead.
IDK man, but throw that whole shit out and start over after sterilizing the roomDefinitely NOT styrofoam or perlite. Neither come in blue and definitely not in sickly blue. Growing medium is hydroton, clone was from a clone king cloner....these ladies have never seen perlite.
Besides, perlite wouldnt make a plant look like thisView attachment 4329005 View attachment 4329006
We have not run peroxide. We went with a product called slf 100 and the plant serms to be recovering as of this morning. I really want to know the cause. My buddy thinks the nodules are tricoderma run amok. He had moved a plant in living soil into the flower room recently and thimks it may have contaminated it.it does look like perlite.

Im thinking along the same lines but Im 90% sure no pythium. Usually pythium gives roots that mildew/aquarium smell and I didnt smell anything. My guess, mold is eating dead tissue off the roots. They also look like they have a case of pythium.
