Seedlings look hungry.

So, I'm wondering what I should give my seedlings if I want to stick to an organic diet. I started them in light warrior, and they have had nothing but balanced water since. Couple of 'em are starting to look hungry, and I have ocean forest ready for them, but I wanted to let them grow for a bit in the solo cups. What should I give em if I dont want to transplant to O.F just yet?

(Side note:
Should I germinate my seeds in smaller containers, and then move to solo cups.)

(Side Side Note:
Should I also look into different mediums in which to germinate in? I've always just tossed the seed in a solo cup with selected inert medium and give It water, with much success.)

I'd put those in the OF and go ahead and let em feed of that for a month before adding anything else.

I started using my compost mix in the bottom of the seed starter. I would have the top 1/2 light warrior and the bottom a homemade mix. The reason that I don't plant straight into my compost is because it can be high in sodium. It took me a while to realize why I was getting bad germination rates in my soil, it was the sodium. I don't know if you had similar problems?

You can also START a solo with a small amount of OF at bottom and warrior on top. It will feed it plus acclimate it to the FFOF , so when ready to up pot she’s happy.

Pretty much what I said, so I agree with you. I know that I don't talk clearly sometimes.

The thing with FFOF ( especially with young seedlings ) is like putting your kid in a hot tub , some really shock from it / burn . But if you do a slow intro then they recover.

Bad example , so don’t call CPS.

I'm starting a compost pile/bin in a few weeks here!! Its spring and I've got plenty of good kitchen waste as well as leaf trimmings from my plants. Plus I live on about 5 1/2 acres of pretty dense woodland, so I'm thinking of using the presumably very fertile soil that has had all kinds of thing decomposing in it over the years, inside my compost bin.

That's definitely what I'm going to start doing. It makes alot of sense to acclimate it to the new medium by doing it that way. I have these tiny cups I was thinking of utilizing, lol

Plus I live on about 5 1/2 acres of pretty dense woodland, so I'm thinking of using the presumably very fertile soil that has had all kinds of thing decomposing in it over the years, inside my compost bin.

Here is some oak leaves from my 2 1/2 acres. I wish that I would have ran them through the wood chipper more than once!


Homemade bokashi bran is one of the best things that I did for my worm bin!

Up pot them.

Espoma garden tone is a good dry organic amendment.

Your solo cups almost look big enough to transplant, but you don't want the soil falling apart after you pull it out of the cup. You want the roots to fill the medium before transplanting.

I'm in the trial run of using this dome with individual pods with light warrior. I'm not really getting a good feeling from these though. They look too long and spindly. I'm probably going back to the larger container with 1/2 light warrior on top.

Do you think that they are ready? Sometimes, when my plants look like that the soil just crumbles when I pull them from the cup. I'm not trying to argue or anything.

Yea. I would up pot. Maybe leave the runt for a few more days.

Definitely put them in OF. They'll look normal within a week.

Right on. All I have readily available to transplant them into are 1/2 gallon pots. I also have a large brick of dehydrated coco coir. Will that be all right to mix with o.f as an aerator, or do I still need something like clay pellets or lava rock to put in there as well. I'll have my super soil made up, with all the components purchased, by the end of next week, so I will veg them for a month in the ocean forest and put them in the 10g pots with S.S when they go into flower. That's the plan anyway

No need to add anything to the OF. And a half gal pot... you need a gallon to get through a month. Just saying Unless you defoliate a few times to slow them down.
