Is this Zinc deficiency?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell if this is Zinc deficiency? First I suspected mag deficiency, but it's hard to tell from Google
Then I read in Ed's book (MGH - Indoor high yield guide) and from his description it sounds more like a zink problem.

I grow in coco with Flora trio nutes. EC and PH is fine, I follow a nute chart from an old time coco grower, designed for Flore Trio.
I add cal/mag with every feeding, feed them daily and have a 20% runoff. Runoff EC is fine and PH of inflow is between 5.9 and 6.1

Shes a blue cheese auto in week 6.
Actually it seemed to get worse really fast, when switching from veg dosage to flower dosage.
I know she won't give much of a harvest, but decided to use her as practice.

highly unlikely its a zinc deficiency

whats fine?

whats the EC of the feed and the EC of the waste or run off?

Same day as I switched to flower nutes I was advised to put the lights closer - around 10". I'm using a 300w Mars hydro.
I moved the light back up to 24" and there was no further damage to the leaves.
So I think lights might have been the problem.

I'm also fighting a Mag problem, but that seems to be corrected. Plant growth has started again and buds are forming well, although it will be a very small harvest. But I have learned a lot for my next plant :)

A 300w Mars Hydro should be fine at 10" away. I always here these crazy distances for leds but I don't get it. They run cooler than hps or mh so I'm not even sure of the reason. I run my leds which are MUCH better, not dogging just comparing, than the Amazon special.

This is from Maximum Yield but I can find others.

For the LED light distance from the canopy top question, I would have to say the rule of thumb for lights is generally to keep them 1 foot away from the top of the plants. This is the distance the lumen ratings are given, I believe.

But LEDs can be placed closer because they are cooler. I would try maybe 6 inches away and just monitor your plants for any sign of wilting or leaf burn—telltale signs that it is too hot for the plants. You can usually tell just by putting your hand there.

The benefit of moving the lights closer is that light diminishes exponentially as it moves away from the plant. By moving it closer, you are effectively increasing the light strength. While moving lights closer increases light strength up to two fold, you will also lose some coverage this way, so it is a toss-up.

As for bloom and flavor-enhancing supplements go, I am a big fan of humid acid, often labeled “black,” and fulvic acid, labeled “gold.” Fulvic acid can be mixed into a foliar spray and will increase the number of flower sites. I also really like organic soluble bat guano, just make sure it is from a sustainable source.

i disagree completely

put your hand under the LED and watch the way it bleaches your skin. not that it will hurt, but your skin will be bleached and reflective, then move your hand away until it returns to its real color. this is what happens to your plants.

especially with cheap red/blue mono LEDs they have a horrible bleaching effect. bleached buds contain reduced THC.

look at the manufacturers claims, most say 20-24" veg, 16-18" flower. never heard of 6" away with any reasonably powerful light. even with blurple that is far to close.

6" maybe if you're growing with extremeley ubderpowered right. Bleach your buds, stunt your plants, reduce your yield and potency.

I dont have that experience with either my cobs or my samsung f564b fixtures. The below pic is with an amazingly strong led less than 12" away. What you speak of may be true and I will admit I do not have personal experience with blurples but I can also say keeping them multiple feet away is not a standered either.

36” from seedlings. 24” for veg. 18” for flower is what most blurple manufacturers recommend

If you underpower your leds you can get closer

Why would a plant flowering or not effect the ability of it to bleach from certain distances, which was your original argument of I read you correctly?

my main point would be: 6" is much to close for an appropriately powered blurple light to the canopy of a plant.

follow manufacturers recommendations for best result.

i think i understand, you're saying that because they can handle 16" in flower they can handle 16" in veg

when were talking about lights, in veg, were talking about distance above a plant canopy. most people do 22-24" as this provides enough even light, of which plants need less in veg. moving your lights closer in veg might not show any ill effects but your plant might get stunted and yellow leaves may show up later as a resulted of continued light bleaching. in flower, were talking about the distance the top colas. idk what lights you use but a top cola 6" away from 1000wHPS or a 100w cob is gonna toast to a fine medium brown if you keep it cold it will bleach it. you can usually get a nice even spread of light when you put your lights 16-18" above your top colas in flower.

bleaching can also show up later on lower fan leaves, especially if its very light. a lot of people mistake this for a deficiency. in addition bleaching can be no big deal. a little bit of bleached fan leaves is okay with me as long as i'm getting good smoke and it shows me i'm right on the edge with my light and can afford to back it off a little bit.

i would follow instructions that come with those fancy mars lights

I have 3 Mars 600w and those distances are spot on. That's what I use as a guide and don't have any problems.
