Will consuming recreational cannabis be legal on October 17?

It's a level playing field coast to coast to coast on Oct.17. For the most part it's easy to respect no booze or no smoking rules for most public places - cannabis will be the same. It may be more restrictive at first, but that will relax over time. Women didn't used to be allowed in bars - now you can bring your kids.
I hope it does relax. I can go to a bar and have a beer but I can't go to any establishment and smoke pot. As the law stands there's very few places to actually use cannabis.

I'm hoping to see vape lounges open up. Would be neat if they made an exception to the smoking laws to allow Amsterdam styled coffee shops.
A small coffee shop just popped up in my city. I hear you can vape but that's just what I'd heard. Whether they mean cannabis or not I'm not quite sure.
I'm hoping they're open tomorrow I might stop in for lunch to check the place out.

It will relax - it's just how long that is going to take. I think once most people realize nothing changed on Oct.17 and the world is not going to end, it will get better. That said, you can't go into a bar and smoke a cigarette either so I don't expect cannabis to be different. I'd be interested in hearing the outcome of your visit to the coffee shop. I know in BC all tobacco products are banned from any business - but cannabis isn't tobacco.....
I think we'll see 'cannabis cafe's' and vape lounges within a few years - I said years ago that BC could give Amsterdam a run for their money if the laws allowed. Cannabis tourism is huge business.

It's just going to be a switch in behaviours. We don't walk down the street drinking a beer, or have a cigarette in a non-smoking area without risk - I don't see how anyone can expect rules around weed to be different.
I didn’t think I implied it was different.
And you are 100% right, you can’t walk down the street drinking a beer but why are we comparing it to beer anyway?
The op question was basically what happens after oct 17 and I think we all agree that the answer is not a whole lot is gonna change.
The gustopo still needs its cash cow and the controllers and their buddies need to force sales of unsellable product.
Sounds more likely that the old med program is about to become the rec program and the only difference is that there will be even more unhappy customers and the sick people that can’t grow will have even fewer options.

The op question was "can you be charged on Oct. 17 if you have cannabis not bought from a government retailer". I answered that. The comment you are quoting, I was talking about having to be discreet about where we consume. It's the same 'crime' as drinking in public or smoking in a no-smoking area. Just a fine and less hassle than a speeding ticket. Follow the rules and have no worries, or be discreet like you are when you are drinking in public and risk a fine if caught. If you are vaping or eating, no one would ever be the wiser no matter where you were. I don't see it as a major inconvenience and I doubt the cops are going on a hunt for pot smokers. The initial police focus will be on driving and on ensuring retail outlets are properly licensed and following the rules. They don't care about Joe smoker.

You are way more optimistic then me and I truly hope that this time I’m wrong.

I was just talking to em on Facebook. without posting the conversation here - asked if they allowed vaping, and they said yeah. Wasn't too sure if they meant tobacco or what. They clarified with "we don't ask what's in your vape pen". Good enough for me, but I'll park down the street just in case.
Closed tomorrow but me and the wife have a lunch date next weekend.

Hi again DieNowK,

...they will try to screw us...
Already have, IMO.
You are not wrong.
Then i'm tempted to transpose our "incidental" agreement (;)) to a more global scale, curious to see if such micro-concensus can still hold true and verify within our larger fractured "community" on the matter of what i consider as "Cultural Genocide" - E. G. when "Stoner$"/"Droÿé$" are about to be forbiden their natural right to REPRODUCE, since the mere presence of a minor shall result in an avalanche of 3rd-party disruptive interventions on the land of cap'tain Inoc.

:!:

It's no easy topic and i'd rather leave it to psychologists, sociologists, anthropologist and philosophers instead of vile self-serving politicians anytime! The simple application of civil asset forfeiture can inflict durable trauma to a kid who's loosing his home, not to mention his parent(s) after a 14 yrs prison sentence - especially those who dared educate their teenager(s) much the same way my own father thaught me about alcohol and moderated "social" consumption.

Actually, as a farmer my dad once produced his own wine and hence imagine if alcohol had been on the "schedule", besides heroin, opium... arsenic and cyanure!... His property being accessorial to a crime what i've just described above would have sufficed to disturb me a great deal in an age of great vulnerability, because we've entered an era when loving protective adults get increasingly infantilized. If not criminalized by those same failing politicians (and their chummy "expert$"/"speciali$ts", mass-media, etc., you name it!) in support for an ideology that went out of control and of any reasonable proportions.

So, beware as the simple evocation of similar ideas can prove to render many situations extremely volatile, naturally... And of course "they" count on it.

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

My advise is do whatever the fuck you want....now!
This is where I stand.
The whole thing is a joke now - it's past July 1st and cops want nothing to do with it.
If you're driving like an asshole and you happen to be stoned, they'll blame the weed and write you up.
Otherwise, what's the point in hiding? They're not going to rack up court cases this late in the game and they really don't seem to care much anymore.

That said, I have a medical card so don't take my advice.
I've been smoking in public with no issue though - none of the officers I've run into seem to know the restrictions on medical.

The way I see it, most provinces won't be opening cannabis stores until the new year. Recreational cannabis will be purchased online, but consumers won't be able to purchase until that day. So on the day of October 17, will you be charged for consuming non medical cannabis?
Hi! Do you mean consuming in public? Or privately?

I could vape weed outside a church, nobody would know.
I mix mine with a bit of Nasty Juice Kush Man for a slight mango flavour.
