5x9 canopy. 3-400 watt hid OR 2-600?

With 3 400s I'd have better light coverage. But the 600 packs stronger light with less even coverage. Which setup would typically yield more?

How many plants are you gonna have? I'd think the two 600s if you had less plants, and three 400s for more plants :D

Im going to have probably around 30. It will be a scrog grow. Equal amount of watts. Im guessing the 3 400s would probably be more colas but smaller sized..

Damn, I'd go the 3 400s with 30 lol but what do I know? I still just have a 130w led on 8 plants rn haha I've got 2 cxb3590 cobs/100w total I'm waiting on now, I guess they're pretty busy over at timber tho, they quoted me 2 weeks to ship it out

3 400w is 1200w of light
2 600w is 1200w
One set up will cover more space the other will have deeper penitration
Both will yeald the exact same 1200w of hid is 1200w of hid. Suggestion.......2 600w uses less sq feet than 3 400w so there is more room to expand later if you want

For a 5 x 9 you would be better off with 2 x 1000W. Even with the 2 thouies its still less than 50w per square foot (45 x 50 = 2250)

That would for sure more fully fill the area. 5X9 is an afull off shaped footprint to fill. No light but a 1000w hid or equivlent will fill the 5ft side. If it were my area i would shrink the room to a 3.5×9 and run 3 315s or 4x9 and run 2 630s

I know this isnt 50w per sq foot but a 315 puts out the same photons as a 600w hid at 1.9 umole per second. For thoes that dont know cmh is almost as efficient as cob much more efficient than led and twice as efficient as hid

Okay so I have been trying to do some research on the cmh's. Forgive me for having to even ask these questions instead of just doing the research, I'm working 60+ hour weeks at my job right now so basically every other waking moment that I'm not at work, I'm trying to get my room all set up and care for my plants, eating dinner and going to bed.
Basically the only research or time that I get on rollitup is spent while I'm on the shitter at work lol.

So my question now is, If cmh has ballpark same efficiency as cobs, full spectrum bulbs and has cri of 80-96, producing great light for plants and also not losing much photons (or whatever the term is) after 3 months like a traditional hps would, basically the only drawback here I'm seeing is they produce a bit more heat and not as even of coverage. Im not worried about the heat. I want to run lights that don't go drastically down hill after the first grow, everyone knows cobs are awesome but they are pricier than the cmh. Would I really be losing that much running cmh rather than cobs? It's seeming like a no brainer from everything I've been reading but there has to be a catch, right?

I also have a grow journal going in the journals forum titled "and so it begins" if you want to check that out. I don't know how to post links yet.

I appreciate any help!!

thats right. i did some math if its not right someone feel free to correct me but this is what my equasiona came to
1000w se hps 1.85 umole/watt
600w hps 1.9 umole/watt
blurple led 2.4 umole/watt
315 cmh 3.49 umole/watt
cob 4.0 umole/watt

Sweet man. Yeah I'm starting to think about running two 630s cmh over a 9x4 canopy, with probably some colas bleeding over the 4 foot sides, but for sure be focused on filling atleast 9x4. I currently have my hid dimmed to 250(mh) and two 130 watt blurples over 55 young seedlings. Doing a bit of a pheno hunt this run, and ill stick to probably 2 winners for the next run. Ready to be done with all these separate strains and phenos of different heights and feeding needs. It kinda kicked my ass the last grow(my first indoor grow) but I'll be more prepared for this one. I meant to take clones off everything last run for a pheno hunt but because of circumstances it didn't work out that way
