Germinating in DWC

hey guys i have some seeds that my boy bought like a year and a half ago (nirvana) and i usually germ in rot riot/rapid rooter plugs but they just arent germinating... i tried the water cup method and they barely cracked.

So i was wondering would it be possible to germinate the seeds in the root riot plug while its in a dwc bucket/hydroton getting constant water/air with the water level touching the seed? i feel like it would but im afraid to try it cause i only have 3 seeds left. thanks

The germination rate gos down the older they get and how they're stored. It's not your methods. It's the seeds.
true but of course some methods are more likely to make them sprout than others, im wondering if the constant oxgen/water will help so i can keep it wet an oxygented as much as possible without over watering

Try it and let is know what happens

Go on YouTube and search Germinating Really Old Seeds 101. It follows plant tissue culture ideas. Sterilize in .15% H2O2 for 1 hour, then the tricky part...Sterilize a sugar solution and oxygenate it. Or sterilize some media, like coco, add a sterile sugar solution, in a sealed tube. The enzymes that help the seeds germinate are weakened. Minimize negative contaminates, possibly scarify, and the sugar and oxygen will invigorate the enzymes.

Try this to give you a better chance of germination get a 80 grid sand paper roll it up into a tube and pop your last remaining seeds in and shake them in side the rolled up sandpaper. By doing this your sanding down the outer shell of the seeds so when you put them in water the water can penetrate the shell a lot better also(don't completely sand away all the outer shell just scuff them up). After grab a glass of water and add PH down get it to go down to 5.5 or if you don't have PH down grab a lemon cut it up and squeeze it in the glass of water then test the water if you have a PH peen or strip to 5.5. Place the glass of seeds in a nice cool dark place check everyday to see if it germinate. Good seeds will pop within a week or 2 but I have experienced seeds popping with in a month later. Good luck with your grow hope they pop soon

I'm gonna try this first. Test 2 of em. Gonna scour, 1 hr soak in 1\20 peroxide/water, then straight into 8 oz solo in soil.

I've had lots of fails. Cup of water, paper towel...nothing. Really old, but might as well experiment.
To answer your question yes you can use rapid rooters or rockwool to germinate your seeds. If your having a hard time germinating your seeds in a cup of water use the rapid rooters or rockwool but you have to dip them in 5.5 ph water. With hydro plants like 5.5 to 6.5 ph it will give the seed a better chance of living and not just getting water log (that's why I drop the ph in my cup of water). I like using RO or distilled water when using rapid rooter or rockwool just because I know there is impurities in my water that can kill my seeds. Don't for get to do the sand paper method just to help speed up the process. The good thing abut the rapid rooters and rockwool when the seed pop its not in water so it cant drown on you.Over all what your trying to do is giving your seeds the best environment to grow in and eliminating anything that can stop it from growing.
I am not a master grower Im just a guy that likes to grow its just a method that works for me

Here's a question...I have some rapid rooted plugs. This might sound dumb, but they appear sealed on the bottom, wouldn't that slow down the tap root? I used cubes on some clones, in a dome. I got it too humid. Fox Farm Light Warrior works for me. Lots of perlite, quite airy. The quality seeds I get emerge within 3 days. 100% germination on about 10 seeds so far. Last time I worked on this some, I did a ridiculous see run. 3 big girls and the male shot a horse load on em...lmao. Got a bunch of seeds. These are like 7 years old. Not holding my breathe, but is be cool. The plants came from a mixed variety pack. Mix of blueberry, sweet skunk, northern lights, and texada timewarp..

This cloner could germinate a seed I bet...DWC. Should be revised for 1.5" net pots and toss a rapid rooter right in. Keep water level close to bottom of the net pot. Keep water cool, use beneficial organisms.IMG_20170407_223334_hdr.jpg

No the taproot will find its way to expand that's what they do . I no longer pop seeds a such as I clone. Let me up load a pic and how I use rockwool I don't dome them at all when I seed them or clone because you are right it gets to humid in the dome some times. The last pic is a example I dip it in water and and pop the seed on top.by the way I like you little cloner.20170407_204258.jpg 20170407_204819.jpg

Don't mind the spear mint I like to garden my sister in law got it from a farmers market I'm just cloning it for my garden.

By the way seed don't really need much nuts the cotyledon is a sours of food for the seedling to use up before it gets its true leaf. Just give it root booster to build your root growth.

When I give em plain RO, I get cal mag deficiency. They tend to run a little light colored, and the b-52 is a vitamin, amino, kelp. Just giving a stable start and the bennies something to feed on.

Is your hole setup DWC or do you also do soil? That's a nice add on to your water mix for you baby's and it's a must with RO water.I myself changed over to DWC I love soil but gets to dirty. Here's my girls in my 5g of water.
