You are right OLD MOTHER SATIVA some people just plain like to over-complicate things in order to pretend that they are preaching rocket science... There is nothing more to it than averaging multiple readings across the area in order to get the average PPFD reading...
In this case it just so happens that the placement of each of your COBs ( I am guessing) is producing a uniform distribution of light across the whole area, which means your fixture is nicely optimized, so well done on that
