1st grow - 420w LED 4x4 in Coco - help!

Hi everyone,

I'm about to embark on my first grow (medical); the room is nearly ready and I'm almost set to go, I just need a few pointers of advice! Key points:

- 4x4x6 tent (1.2m x 1.2m x 2m)
- 420w LED (12 x Cxb3590)
- 9k but mini split ac sealed room
- will be a coco/perlite grow (75/25)

Ill be growing durban poison and bubba kush from seed (no clones yet) and need some advice;

1.) what size pots to use? I'll be starting seeds in paper towels and transplanting the healthiest & quickest but I have no idea what size pots to stick them in! I was thinking 1gal then 5gal? How do you determine what size to use? Square or round pots? I was thinking about aeropots but I don't know if they're worth it?

2.) I was thinking of having 9 ladies in the room (3x3 layout), is this overkill, about right or way off the mark?

3.) when starting the ladies off, how much light should I use? I have 12 cobs (cxb3590s) running at 35w each and can dim if necessary. I don't want to hurt them with "too much" light too early so I'm assuming 420w would be too much? If so, what should I use?

These questions probably appear silly to most of the experienced growers out there (sorry!), I just don't want to stress them early in life and waste months for poor quality medicine!

Thanks for your help,

Rambo

1. You may do best cutting 1 gal. milk jugs - put a lot of holes in bottom - leave handle for moving.
2. Nine plants in that size is a bit much... I'd go with no more than 6 and hope to get a lot of female seeds.
3. Run the 420 - dim at half watts for a week - then go full on - or run em at full power - won't hurt them any.

You're beginning a marathon - Good luck - Hope you get to the finish line!

if you are not planing on training your plants then 9 plant should fit in that space if you don't veg too long.I germinate my seeds in paper towels than start them in 1 pint nursery containers.after 2 weeks I transplant them to 5 gallon fabric pots. hope this was helpful

9 plants in 2g containers, minimal veg, no topping to minimize bushing.

my philosophy is to find the best phenotypes ASAP if i can't find clones,
so i usually sprout all the seeds at once.

Thanks guys; appreciate it.

I have fem seeds so hopefully won't run into any issues on that front.

I was going to train fairly hard but i'll take it easy for space given everyone thinks it'll cause issues! As this is my first grow, i'll use this as a way of working everything out.

With regards to handling water run off, whats the best way to do this? Raise the pots off the ground? Is there any "off the shelf" stand or something for this? I don't like the idea of the run off just soaking and getting reabsorbed. I don't want to have to be moving everything around daily to clean up the run off so elevating the pots and collecting the run off!
