I was just wondering, what is the process like to seek medication from doctors or health professionals? What sort of questions will they ask? IS it a lengthy process?

I recommend you write down your symptoms so that when you do see a psychiatrist, you can let them know what you have experienced throughout your life. You first see a doctor and let them know what has been going on with you and if you are having symptoms that are causing you trouble each day such as manic symptoms or depressive symptoms. Seek a referral to a psychiatrist and then then they will assess you and only they can diagnose you for bipolar disorder. It took me 7 years since I began seeing the doctor to be diagnosed. During this time, the doctor was treating symptoms. Later, 3 years ago, I experienced a manic episode, he put me on certain medications and I got better. If you are already experiencing mania or hypomania it can be easier to be diagnosed as you are already in need of medication. The psychiatrist asked me if anyone in my family had any type of mental illness. I really can't remember everything else he asked because it's been 10 years. It's not a lengthy process for some people, but for others like me, it was.
