I have 10 cameras on my property. I use a program called Velocity for monitoring. Front gate, back yard, etc. There is an option with it, that takes snaps every 30 seconds and uploads them directly to a cloud acct. I would call it the cheapest most well performing prog I have used yet. I use it to watchout for my grow tents, also. Killer piece of mind. Totally worth the $10 extra bucks to use the option to live stream. I just drank a couple redbulls so I am way too stoked to be talking about electronics. I will shut the fuck up now..

Since you're Red-Bullin it I'm on to you not stinkin your nose in the powder. :-D
Good on you bro - Kids first !

So the system I linked has lotsa cool features including live streaming to my phone if necessary.
Personally I'd prob leave it in the "record if movement" mode as watching nothing happen seems counter productive.
Do you think it's a system worth the $$? Resolution and all seems top of the line I think.

Hmm depends if your setup is legal Or illegal? If legal get a system like adt. Vivint or the many others. For 15 dollars a month protect the house and plants. If illegal I would go with security gates, doors and other security measures. My reasoning is when I was a kid I wasn't the nicest, but I wasn't a dummy. I would use a hat, hoddie and gloves, and never knew the people so if they did catch my little bit of face there's no way of recognizing someone you don't know. Oh I worked for a security company for a year as a tech later in life.... Past made me a good tech. Off track... Yeah if they can't get in they can't take stuff. 3\4" plywood 3" screws and some thought goes a long way....

It is actually a free program and has the "record with movement" option. http://www.candylabs.com/videovelocity

If you PM me, I can give you my keycode for registering it, and it will unlock all of the features. It worked for my neighbor. Just let me know if you are interested. Fuck it, I will post it here so everyone can use it. One sec...

Need more info to help you out is it legit or not...it's a pretty important piece of the puzzle
If your cameras aren't monitored they're pointless... The camera monitored by your phone is a joke. Sends notifications or email. I don't know about you but I don't live on my phone and half the time I can't find the thing it's charging or dead. If your at work do you check your phone? How far away do you work? Would you be able to get home in time to stop em? Better yet what if you did, kill a guy and you have a grow op in your house... I'm serious about helping you out. I worked as a carpenter for many years and installed security systems for a little. Imo those cameras are a joke. Put that money into steel doors, reinforced framing and such and walk away knowing someone will have to work their ass off for hours to break into your house or whatever your protecting....

Personally I agree..
Flood lights and oversized cameras that don't even work would be just as effective.

We need info gwn of you want more advice. A loud audible alarm, cams that are easily seen etc can scare him off but won't actually stop someone

What's Amount you wanna spend how secure you wanna be etc

Having a pic of him won't help you unless you recognize him. And it's not like the cops will care or put his face on the news

Shit some of my boys were robbing convenience stores.. 7 down ,one slips and let's off a 12 gauge..just hit the front door. But it wasn't until then that police even cared. Aftr that it was in the news..

Sorry about your loss GWN.

One thing I look for in these cameras are the number or IR (infrared) LEDs.
At night time a good cam will really light up anything that the leds can bounce IR off of.
You can also add separate IR boosters.
But, like someone above said it's hard to ID people at a distance, even in daylight.
3 rows of leds on this cam are nice.

The old glass tube type cams from the past are excellent in daytime but need real light at night.

I have an old pci card system on a Dell computer and run Team Viewer on it.
Run team viewer on your phone or another computer for monitoring. It also records everything to the hard drive
for local viewing. You can set up 'zones' that will only record when motion is detected that can also turn on an alarm
of your liking.
I have a cheap Zemodo that has a internal hard drive as well with the same features.
Sorta a bitch to set up into my network for remote viewing though.

Good luck
ya get what you pay for
